  • Publication number: 20160021768
Abstract: A multi-purpose enclosure for telecommunication applications includes plural walls defining a first chamber and a second chamber, and a heat generating component positioned in the first chamber. At least one of the plural walls separates the first chamber and the second chamber. At least a portion of the wall separating the first chamber and the second chamber spans an area defined by a width and a height. The wall portion has a surface area that is greater than a product of the width and the height. The plural walls define an airflow path adjacent to the wall portion for removing from the enclosure heat generated by the heat generating component and thermally conducted from the first chamber to the second chamber through the wall portion. Other example enclosures are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20150373872
Abstract: An electronics equipment cabinet includes a plurality of walls defining a first space and a second space adjacent the first space. A wall of the plurality of walls separates the first space and the second space and includes an opening. The cabinet further includes a heat generating module having an inlet side, an outlet side opposing the inlet side, a heat generating component between the inlet side and the outlet side, and an internal fan for directing air heated by the heat generating component into the second space via the opening of the wall. One or more walls of the plurality of walls defining the second space includes a thermally conductive material for transferring heat from the second space to a surrounding environment external to the cabinet to reduce a temperature in the cabinet. Other example cabinets and methods for reducing temperature in cabinets are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20130274905
Abstract: A system is described that allows a golfer, while playing a round of golf, which may be during an event such as a tournament, to record scores in real-time and online as play progresses using a handheld unit or terminal, such as a smart telephone. The hole-by-hole scores, individual and team, can be recorded using one hand, such as by using a thumb, to activate buttons, menus, etc. The unit can display the individual, team and all players scores via screens, such as a leader board page, as play in the tournament progresses. The unit (smart phone) wirelessly interacts with a web server during play over a communication network that provides pages (web forms) displayed to the player on the unit. The web server also interacts with a database server to store the golf game or round data for display on the handheld unit.

  • Patent number: 8544766
Abstract: An ambient environment modification mechanism such as a scent dispenser (which could also act as a filter) which may comprise a piston and a piston cylinder, receiving the piston, and forming a piston cylinder chamber volume when the piston is moved from an inserted position in the piston cylinder to a withdrawn position in the piston cylinder. The piston may have a hollow interior receiving an ambient air modification material holder, such as a cartridge, containing ambient air modification material. The hollow interior may be in fluid communication with the piston cylinder chamber volume at a first end of the hollow interior. A ventilation opening may be in fluid communication with the hollow interior at a second end of the hollow interior. A piston cylinder chamber volume forming mechanism, such as spring may move the piston relative to the piston cylinder from the inserted position to the withdrawn position.

  • Patent number: 8343369
Abstract: A method of producing a MEMS device removes the bottom side of a device wafer after its movable structure is formed. To that end, the method provides the device wafer, which has an initial bottom side. Next, the method forms the movable structure on the device wafer, and then removes substantially the entire initial bottom side of the device wafer. Removal of the entire initial bottom side effectively forms a final bottom side.

  • Patent number: 8162035
Abstract: A cold plate and method for cooling using the cold plate are disclosed. The cold plate includes a housing having hyperporous, microchannel ceramic foam strips disposed therewithin. A plurality of plugs formed from a high thermal conductivity material are disposed into the ceramic foam strips. Heat is transferred in an extremely efficient manner by leveraging the high thermal conductivity of the plugs to transfer the energy deep into a high internal surface area ceramic foam, which in turn transfers the heat to a coolant via convection. Channels between the foam strips form coolant inlet and outlet plenums, which results in minimal coolant pressure drop through the cold plate. In one example, an exemplary cold plate may provide cooling to one or two printed circuit boards. In another example, a cold plate may be disposed within a heat exchanger housing to provide cooling to a fluid.

  • Patent number: 6893574
Abstract: A MEMS capping method and apparatus uses a cap structure on which is formed a MEMS cavity, a cut capture cavity, and a cap wall. The cap wall is essentially the outer wall of the MEMS cavity and the inner wall of the cut capture cavity. The cap structure is bonded onto a MEMS structure such that the MEMS cavity covers protected MEMS components. The cap structure is trimmed by cutting through to the cut capture cavity from the top of the cap structure without cutting all the way through to the MEMS structure.

  • Patent number: 6044030
Abstract: A FIFO unit for buffering serial communications includes a register and a unit for maintaining a single pointer. The single pointer functions as an IN pointer during writes and an OUT pointer during reads. The same circuitry maintains the pointer for both reads and writes to the FIFO. This circuitry preferably includes a single counter. If an error occurs during reading, the single pointer can be reinitialized and reading restarted, without loss of data. The register is not erased until reading is complete.
