    Abstract: A ground engaging tooth assembly for a cutting edge of a ground engaging implement may include an adapter and a ground engaging tip. The adapter may have a forward extending adapter nose having an inverted or reverse keystone-shaped contour, with the ground engaging tip having a nose cavity for receiving the adapter nose and exterior surfaces having complementary shapes to the adapter nose. The adapter nose and an adapter cavity of the tip may also be configured with complimentary surfaces that increase retention between the adapter nose and the tip when downward forces are applied to the tip. In other embodiments, the surfaces of the tip may include reliefs extending inwardly into the body of the tip to reduce weight and facilitate penetration of the tip into work material as wear material wears away from a front edge of the tip.

The collar may include an annular wall surrounding a recess configured to receive the first end of the shaft; an axial slot in an inner surface of the annular wall, the axial slot extending from a first end of the annular wall inward and being configured to receive the radial projection; and a circumferential slot connected to the axial slot in the inner surface of the annular wall, the circumferential slot being configured to receive the radial projection of the pin.

    Abstract: A protection assembly for protecting the base edge and an attached cutting edge of a bucket or other implement of a work machine. The protection assembly is readily attachable and detachable to buckets having both new and worn base and cutting edges when the use of teeth is required for excavating, especially in hard packed virgin soil. The protection assembly includes a digging plate and a cover plate that form an elongated edge recess for receiving the base and cutting edges of the bucket. Positioning devices are provided on the bucket and the protection assembly to consistently position the protection system at the same location on the bucket regardless of the amount of wear on the base and cutting edges. The positioning devices prevent movement of the protection system relative to the bucket when the bucket is used for excavating.

The cavity has a concave frontal face thereon and a retainer opening through the one side in registry with the concave frontal face. A hook portion is provided on the base edge cover, which is adapted to be received within the cavity of the mounting base and positionable at a operative position where the convex face on the hook portion is disposed in a spaced opposing relation to the concave face in the cavity to define an arcuate groove therebetween.

    Abstract: Apparatus is provided for protecting a base edge of a ground engaging implement of a work machine from wear. The apparatus includes a base edge cover and retaining apparatus of a construction adapted for time saving removal and installation. A mounting base is carried on the upper face of the base edge and has an opening therein. An upper flange element of the base edge cover has a bar projecting inwardly therefrom toward the upper face of the base edge. The bar is positionable within the opening of the mounting base and is captured in such opening by a detachable lock. The construction results in a reduction of waste of materials that must be discarded after the base edge cover is worn out.

The retaining apparatus includes an arcuate retainer that is slidably received into an arcuate slot accessible through the top of the cover.

    Abstract: Pin retainers are normally used to secure a pin in its assembled so that one member can be releasably secured to another member, such as, securing a tooth to an adapter nose. Many times the pin retainer is not sufficiently strong to hold the pin in place under adverse operating conditions. Known pin retainers that are effective to hold the pin in place are not readily available and are expensive to produce. In the subject arrangement, a pin retainer assembly is provided which can be made from known components and is effective to hold a pin in place under adverse operating conditions. The pin retainer assembly includes a split retaining ring loosely sandwiched between at least two retaining members and held together by various known bonding or securing methods.

    Abstract: Tip retainer mechanisms are designed primarily to secure a tip to an adapter nose for use in a variety of applications. In applications where a spring retainer is located in a recess of the adapter nose and trapped in the recess by the assembly of the tip thereon, it is necessary for the spring retainer to be properly positioned in the recess to enable easy insertion of the pin through the respective holes in the tip, adapter nose, and spring retainer. In the subject arrangement, the holder substantially encircles the outer diameter of a spring retainer. When assembled, the holder and spring retainer are placed in a recess of the adapter nose and a bore of the spring retainer is substantially axially aligned with a transverse bore of the adapter nose. Furthermore, the holder is made of an elastomeric material and has a thickness greater than a depth of the recess.

    Abstract: In ground engaging tools, reliable fastening devices are needed to quickly and effectively secure replaceable earth working tips to adapters. The fastening pin assembly should be configured in such a way as to prevent pin loss or breakage which causes the tip to be lost and/or the adapter damaged. This invention consists of two pins and an interconnecting and retaining means. When assembled, each pin will extend approximately to the middle portion of the adapter through axially aligned bores defined in both the tip and adapter. The interconnecting and retaining means is located in the middle portion of the adapter between the two pins and retains the pins in the adapter bore. This invention protects against pin loss/and or breakage and is beneficial to all type of earth working replaceable tip applications.

    Abstract: A corner tooth assembly is provided on the corner of an implement for protection thereof from wear during use. It is necessary to provide a tight fit between the corner tooth and the corner portion of the implement so that unnecessary movement of the corner tooth on the corner portion is avoided while at the same time not subjecting the corner tooth to undue stresses during initial installation of the corner tooth on the implement. The present corner tooth assembly includes a corner portion integrally connected to the implement with first and second load transferring pads defined on a leading edge thereof and first and second holes defined therein and a corner tooth adapted for releasable connection to the corner portion.
