  • Publication number: 20060227097
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for displaying data on a display, the apparatus comprising an electrophoretic display device, a storage device, user input means and a central processing unit conceived to retrieve data from the storage device and send the retrieved data to the display device for display. Advantageously, the storage device is a disk drive for reading data from removable optical disks with a diameter between 25 millimeter and 50 millimeter. The apparatus can be used as an electronic book.

  • Publication number: 20060092124
Abstract: The electrophoretic display panel (1) for displaying a picture and a subsequent picture has drive means (100) which are able to control for each pixel (2) the potential difference to have a picture value to provide the pixels (2) with a respective picture appearance being either extreme or intermediate, subsequently to have an inter-picture value to provide the pixels (2) with a respective inter-picture appearance, and subsequently to have a subsequent picture value. For the display panel (1) to be able to provide the pixels (2) with the inter-picture appearances which are in general relatively little visible, the drive means (100) are able to control for each pixel (2) an estimate potential difference as the inter-picture value to provide the pixels (2) with a respective estimate picture appearance as the inter-picture appearance.

  • Publication number: 20060071902
Abstract: The electrophoretic display panel (1), for displaying a picture corresponding to image information, has drive means (100) which are arranged for controlling the potential difference of each picture element (2) to be a reset potential difference having a reset value and a reset duration for enabling particles (6) to substantially occupy one of the extreme positions, and subsequently to be a picture potential difference for enabling the particles (6) to occupy the position corresponding to the image information. For the display panel (1) to be able to provide a relatively high picture quality, the drive means (100) are further arranged for controlling the reset potential difference of each picture element (2) of at least a number of the picture elements (2) to have an additional reset duration.

  • Publication number: 20050285814
Abstract: A driver circuit drives an electroluminescent display (1) which comprises a matrix of display pixels (10) associated with intersections of data electrodes (12) and select electrodes (11). The driver circuit comprises a select driver (2) which supplies a select signal (VS) comprising non-overlapping select pulses (VSP) with a predetermined repetition frequency to a selected one (11?) of the select electrodes (11). The data driver (3) supplies data signals (DS) comprising data pulses (DSP) with the same predetermined repetition frequency to the data electrodes (12). The data pulses (DSP) occur during the select pulses (VSP) for data electrodes (12) of which associated pixels (10) should not produce light. The data pulses (DSP) occur in-between the select pulses (VSP) for data electrodes (12) of which associated pixels (10) should produce light.

  • Publication number: 20050162377
Abstract: The invention relates to a display device comprising electrophoretic particles, a display element comprising a pixel electrode and an associated counter electrode, between which a portion of the electrophoretic particles is present, and a controller for supplying a drive signal to the electrodes to bring the display element to a predetermined black or white state, corresponding to the image information to be displayed. In order to improve the refresh time of the display, the controller is further arranged to supply a preset signal preceding the drive signal comprising a preset pulse representing an energy which is sufficient to release the electrophoretic particles at a first position near one of the two electrodes corresponding to a black state, but is too low to enable the particles to reach a second position near the other electrode corresponding to a white state.
