    Abstract: Novel thermoplastic pipes which can withstand extremely high internally generated and/or applied pressures for utilization within, primarily, high pressure underground liquid and gas transport systems are provided. Such pipes are improvements over standard metal (i.e., steel, lead, and the like) pipes due to construction costs, shipping costs, implementation costs (particularly underground), modulus strength allowances to compensate for underground movements (i.e., earthquakes and tremors), non-rusting characteristics, and ease in manufacture. Such pipes are preferably reinforced with specific fabric articles which permit a lower thickness of plastic to be utilized than is generally required to withstand high pressure situations. A one-step, potentially on-site production method, is also contemplated within this invention.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a reinforcement fabric for use in manufacture of hoses and pipes having a body matrix of polymer material, said reinforcement fabric comprising a collection of substantially parallel reinforcement yarns arranged along a longitudinal direction of the fabric and a plurality of transverse and/or bias yarns interconnecting the reinforcement yarns. The reinforcement fabric is a stable fabric for direct application to the polymer body matrix of a preform of the hose or pipe by wrapping the reinforcement fabric around the preform. The reinforcement fabric is adapted to be directly applied to the polymer body matrix of the preform by the transverse and/or bias yarns being substantially lighter than the reinforcement yarns, and by at least one surface of the reinforcement fabric being tackified for adhesion to the polymer body matrix of the preform of the hose or pipe.

    Abstract: In a process that is particularly suitable for producing pipes or hoses, the reinforcing material and the matrix material are no longer produced separately but together in a woven, knitted, braided or non-woven fabric. The matrix material is selected so that its melting temperature is lower than the melting or decomposition temperature of the reinforcing material. The end product is obtained by pultruding the fabricated material, generally designated as textile fabrics, at a temperature above the melting temperature of the matrix material and below the melting or decomposition temperature of the reinforcing material. The product is then cooled to stabilise its final shape.
