  • Patent number: 5460740
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition comprising a major portion of a lubricating oil and a minor amount of an additive. The additive is prepared by reacting a polyamine with an alkenyl succinic acid anhydride having a number average molecular weight of about 500 to about 10,000 at a temperature of 60.degree. C.-120.degree. C. to form mono-alkenyl succinimide, bis-alkenyl succinimide or a mixture of mono- and bis-alkenyl succinimide. 2-pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid is then added to form an acylated mono-alkenyl succinimide, bis-alkenyl succinimide or mixture of mono- and bis-alkenyl succinimide. The acylated mono-alkenyl succinimide, bis-alkenyl succinimide or mixture of mono- and bis-alkenyl succinimide is acylated with an acylating compound selected from the group consisting of glycolic acid, oxalic acid, lactic acid, 2-hydroxymethyl-propionic acid and 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid at a temperature of about 150.degree. C. to about 185.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4142865
Abstract: Low pour point hydrocarbon oil compositions are prepared by incorporating in a hydrocarbon oil such as crude oil, gas oil, residual fuel oil, etc. about 0.01 to about 0.5 percent by weight of an oil-soluble alkylated polybenzyl polymer or copolymer with, for example styrene, the said polymer or copolymer having a molecular weight of about 500 to about 50,000 or more. The polymer or copolymer may be added, for example, as a hydrocarbon solution to the base hydrocarbon oil after which the final oil composition is formed by heating the components to 100.degree. to 350.degree. F. for one hour or more with mixing.

  • Patent number: 4002437
Abstract: Diesel fuel composition comprising a mixture of hydrocarbons boiling in a range from about 310.degree. to 475.degree. F. containing an additive mixture composed of (1) dimeric and trimeric acids produced by the condensation of unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acids having between about 16 and about 18 carbon atoms per molecule, and hydroxyaliphatic monocarboxylic acids having between about 16 and about 18 carbon atoms per molecule, (2) a normally liquid completely or partially neutral amine salt of an oxo-alkyl acid ester of orthophosphoric acid in which each esterifying oxo-alkyl group contains 13 to 16 carbon atoms and the amine is an aliphatic hydrocarbon monoamine of 16 to 24 carbon atoms in which each aliphatic hydrocarbon radical is attached to the nitrogen through a saturated carbon atom, (3) an aliphatic demulsifier consisting of fatty acids alkoxylated by a mixture of ethylene and propylene oxides and (4) a saturated hydrocarbon solvent.
