  • Patent number: 9828708
Abstract: A method of producing a needled product of a selected material or materials of a desired thickness and size. A first carded batt of a selected material or materials is moved from a feed support into a needle loom between a vertically reciprocating needle bed and a support bed located beneath and in spaced relation to the needle bed. The needle bed and/or the support bed are vertically movable to vary the spacing therebetween. The upper surface of the first carded batt is penetrated by the needles in the needle loom so that the needles do not reach an upper surface of the support bed and are able to flex laterally. The needled first batt is then lifted and moved to the feed support or a feed support for another needle loom. Thereafter, a second batt is positioned over the first batt in overlapping relation, the needle bed or support bed is moved to increase the vertical spacing therebetween to accommodate the overlapped batts, and the batts are moved through the needle loom and connected.

  • Patent number: 9551092
Abstract: A method of forming carded fibers of different materials. A feed system has a plurality of separate laterally spaced chambers containing fibers of different materials. The different fibers are fed in separate laterally spaced paths into a carding apparatus having a plurality of rollers and cylinders each having laterally spaced sections in alignment with the laterally spaced paths to receive and maintain the different fibers in the laterally spaced paths thereon as they move through the carding apparatus. The different fibers are combined into a multi-fiber roving or web after they exit the carding apparatus. Depending on the composition of the different fibers, they may be combined by conveying them through a humidifying and heated chamber or chambers.

  • Patent number: 8026189
Abstract: A method of making a high-temperature and fire-resistant fabric is described in which staple carbon fiber yarns are woven into a unified multi-layer woven fabric. The warp ends and filling picks of the unified multi-layer woven structure are positioned such that they prevent penetration of fire flames, welding sparks and molten metal spatter from penetrating through the unified multi-layer fabric.

  • Patent number: 5414915
Abstract: Multiple filter bags are formed from a layered composite sheet of two, essentially identical fibrous or felt layers by needling a plurality of transverse paths each 0.75 to 1.5 inches wide on the composite sheet, the paths being spaced 4-18 inches apart so as to form a plurality of tubular shaped channels. The needled transverse paths are then slit longitudinally along a central line so as to form separate elongated tubes, which are then cross cut apart transversely to produce segments of any desired length such as 12-36 inches. These segments are each final closed at one end of each segment by needling or stitching to form multiple filter bag structures. The invention also includes the felt filter bags produced by this method of manufacture.
