  • Patent number: 9412128
Abstract: Systems and a method for retrieving and normalizing product information are described. The method selects a normalized representation of a product. The selecting is responsive to receiving a user indication of the product. The normalized representation is based on product information that is collected from two or more suppliers and described differently by the two or more suppliers. The method further identifies a plurality of offerings for the product based on the normalized representation. The plurality of offerings includes offerings from the two or more suppliers that describe the product differently. Finally, a user interface includes information corresponding to the plurality of offerings for the product.

  • Patent number: 9410873
Abstract: A fluidics apparatus for manipulation of at least one fluid sample is disclosed. A manipulation surface locates the fluid sample. A surface acoustic wave (SAW) generation material layer is provided. This is a polycrystalline material, textured polycrystalline material, biaxially textured polycrystalline material, microcrystalline material, nanocrystalline material, amorphous material or composite material. A transducer electrode structure arranged at the SAW generation material layer provides SAWs at the manipulation surface for interaction with the fluid sample. The manipulation surface has a phononic structure, for affecting the transmission, distribution and/or behavior of SAWs at the manipulation surface. The apparatus is typically manufactured by reel-to-reel processes, to reduce the unit cost to a level at which the apparatus can be considered to be disposable after a single use.

  • Patent number: 9413723
Abstract: Techniques for configuring and managing remote security devices are disclosed. In some embodiments, configuring and managing remote security devices includes receiving a registration request for a remote security device at a device for configuring and managing a plurality of remote security devices; verifying the registration request to determine that the remote security device is an authorized remote security device for an external network; and sending a response identifying one or more security gateways to the remote security device, in which the remote security device is automatically configured to connect to each of the one or more security gateways using a distinct Layer 3 protocol tunnel (e.g., a virtual private network (VPN)).

  • Patent number: 9413461
Abstract: A method, systems, apparatus and device enable high bandwidth satellite communications. An onboard tracking detector, installed in a low-earth orbit satellite, detects a position of an incoming optical beam received/transmitted from a first ground station of one or more ground stations. Tracker electronics determine orientation information of the incoming optical beam based on the position. Control electronics receive the orientation information from the tracker electronics, and control a waveguide drive electronics. The waveguide drive electronics control a voltage that is provided to an electro-optic waveguide beam steering device. The electro-optic waveguide beam steering device steers an outgoing optical beam to one of the one or more ground stations based on the voltage.

  • Patent number: 9412377
Abstract: A system and method for enhancing visual representation to individuals participating in a conversation is provided. Visual data for a plurality of individuals participating in one or more conversations is analyzed. Possible conversational configurations of the individuals are generated. Each possible conversational configuration includes one or more pair-wise probabilities of at least two of the individuals. A probability weight is assigned to each of the pair-wise probabilities having a likelihood that the individuals of that pair-wise probability are participating in a conversation. A probability of each possible conversational configuration is determined by combining the probability weights for the pair-wise probabilities of that possible conversational configuration. The possible conversational configuration with the highest probability is selected as a most probable configuration.

  • Patent number: 9411607
Abstract: Fast computer startup is provided by, upon receipt of a shutdown command, recording state information representing a target state. In this target state, the computing device may have closed all user sessions, such that no user state information is included in the target state. However, the operating system may still be executing. In response to a command to startup the computer, this target state may be quickly reestablished from the recorded target state information. Portions of a startup sequence may be performed to complete the startup process, including establishing user state. To protect user expectations despite changes in response to a shutdown command, creation and use of the file holding the recorded state information may be conditional on dynamically determined events. Also, user and programmatic interfaces may provide options to override creation or use of the recorded state information.

  • Publication number: 20160225109
Abstract: A method for selling restaurant food. One method, for selling food, comprises the steps of: providing a buffet restaurant; selling containers to customers of the buffet restaurant; and permitting purchasers of said containers to place therein food from the buffet for take-away purposes. Another method is for use with a buffet restaurant of the all-you-can-eat type, wherein a patron is, in exchange for payment of a fixed price, allowed to eat as much as he or she wishes from the buffet in a single sitting. This method comprises the step of: allowing said patron, for an additional price, the opportunity to retrieve a predetermined quantity of food from the buffet for take-away purposes. The additional price can be embodied in the sale of a container to the patron, the volume of the container defining the predetermined quantity.

  • Publication number: 20160224940
Abstract: A method for managing characteristics in word clouds. A computer system displays a graphical display of words representing first characteristics in the characteristics for a first person in a word cloud in a graphical user interface on a display system in the computer system. The graphical display of the words represents the first characteristics with first values that distinguish the first person from a second person with second characteristics with second values. The computer system also changes a value in the first values for a characteristic in the first characteristics when a user input is received through the graphical user interface in which the user input changes the graphical display of a word in the words corresponding to the characteristic.

  • Publication number: 20160227296
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that allow for providing targeted asset/advertisements for broadcast-wide programming feeds. The systems and methods allow network platforms to select among asset options provided with a content stream and/or replace assets in the content stream. In one arrangement, after selecting an asset, the asset is inserted into the content stream and the content stream is disseminated to subsequent network platforms (e.g., local platforms). At this time, the local platforms may insert local assets into the content stream in predetermined local asset insertion spots.

  • Publication number: 20160224663
Abstract: According to an aspect, a question answering computer system determines a set of search terms for a given question. A plurality of passages that each includes at least one search term in the set of search terms is identified in response to a search of a document for search terms in the set of search terms. A passage from the plurality of passages is selected. A context based score of the selected passage that indicates the likelihood that the selected passage contains an answer to the question is generated based on criteria that specify a relationship among the set of search terms, content of the passage, and content of at least one other passage in the plurality of passages.

  • Publication number: 20160222770
Abstract: A well pump assembly has a main pump suspended on a string of production tubing within casing in a well. A charge pump is located below the main pump. An annular sealing element between the charge pump intake and the charge pump discharge seals between the charge pump and the casing. A motor is coupled with the main pump and the charge pump. A bypass member has an open upper end above the main pump intake and a lower end above the sealing element. The bypass member defines a flow path from the discharge of the charge pump upward past the main pump intake, then downward to reach the main pump intake. The bypass member may be a bypass riser extending alongside the main pump, or it may be a shroud surrounding the main pump.

  • Publication number: 20160225150
Abstract: A method for determining an object's size based on calibration data is disclosed. The calibration data is measured by capturing images with an image sensor and a lens module, having at least one objective, of the capsule camera at a plurality of object distances and/or back focal distances and deriving from the images characterizing a focus of each objective for at least one color plane. Images of lumen walls of gastrointestinal (GI) tract are captured using the capsule camera. Object distance for at least one region in the current image is estimated based on the camera calibration data and relative sharpness of the current image in at least two color planes. The size of the object is estimated based on the object distance estimated for one or more regions overlapping with an object image of the object and the size of the object image.
