    Abstract: A mechanism for converting reciprocal motion to rotary motion. A pair of driving members are mounted to undergo reciprocal up-and-down movement about a first axis. A pair of driving chains are drivingly connected to the respective driving members so that reciprocal up-and-down movement of the driving members transmits respective driving forces to the driving chains. A driven member is mounted for undergoing rotational motion in one direction of rotation about a second axis different from the first axis. A drive unit transfers, via the driving forces of the driving chains, reciprocal up-and-down movement of the driving members to rotational motion of the driven member in the one direction of rotation.

The motion transfer mechanism comprises at least one driving member configured to undergo reciprocal motion about a first axis and at least one clutch housing integral with the at least one driving member and configured to undergo angular displacement about the first axis during reciprocal motion of the at least one driving member. A driven member supports the at least one clutch housing and is mounted to undergo rotary motion in a direction of rotation about the first axis. At least one unidirectional clutch mechanism is mounted on the driven member and is configured to engage the at least one clutch housing for effecting rotation of the driven member in the direction of rotation during reciprocal motion of the at least one driving member.

    Abstract: A motion transfer mechanism for transferring reciprocal motion to rotary motion comprises at least one driving member having front and rear end portions terminating, respectively, in front and rear ends and mounted to undergo reciprocal motion about a first axis located closer to the rear end than the front end of the driving member. At least one rotary member is mounted to undergo angular displacement about a second axis. An interconnecting member connects the driving member to the rotary member, such that reciprocal motion of the driving member effects angular displacement of the rotary member about the second axis. At least one driven member is mounted to undergo rotary motion in one direction of rotation about the second axis. A transfer device drivingly connects the rotary member to the driven member for transferring angular displacement of the rotary member to rotary motion of the driven member in the one direction of rotation.

    Abstract: There is provided an occupant-propelled land vehicle, such as a bicycle, having a frame, at least one front wheel, at least one rear wheel, and a seat for the rider of the vehicle, supported by the frame, wherein two levers, each having a front end and a back end, are pivoted on the frame on each side forwardly of the rear wheel and at a point substantially closer to the back end than to the front end. Two rigidly interconnected and spaced-apart parallel discs, one of the discs being toothed, are associated with an upper portion of the rear wheel. Connecting rods are pivotally connected to the back ends of the levers and are eccentrically-rotatably connected to the discs, a sprocket wheel is connected to the axle of rear wheel, and a driving chain is included in a connection between the toothed disc and the rear-wheel sprocket wheel.
