  • Patent number: 10638200
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing users with a real time or near-real time indications of media channels or programs that are currently receiving the most usage or consumption within a defined population of users are disclosed. In an embodiment, a method receives media usage data for currently airing media while the media is being aired and creates an ordered list of media channels or programs for presentation, based at least in part on the media usage data. The method then presents the ordered list of media channels or programs while the media is being aired. In an embodiment, a system further provides the ability to easily select and tune one of the indicated channels or programs in an interactive interface. In an embodiment, the selected media channels or programs are sold on demand or as part of a service upgrade if they are not included in a user's current subscription.

  • Patent number: 5402489
Abstract: A scrambled frequency modulated video signal transmission system is provided with a headend station having a d.c. coupled amplitude demodulator for removing the amplitude modulation of a scrambled amplitude modulated baseband video signal. The low frequency components, e.g. 0-50 Hz, of the resulting scrambled baseband video signal are separated from the remaining high frequency components thereof for providing a pulse-code FSK modulated subcarrier. The subcarrier and the high frequency components are then combined and frequency modulated in a frequency modulator. The resulting scrambled frequency modulated video signal is then transmitted via fiber optic, coaxial and/or microwave transmission lines to a frequency demodulator in a hub station. In the hub station the output of a frequency demodulator is provided to a subcarrier demodulator for removing the pulse-code FSK modulated subcarrier producing the low frequency components, e.g. 0-50 Hz, which contain the scrambled sync pulse information.
