  • Publication number: 20160080830
Abstract: A method comprises receiving content from at least one source, processing the content to identify an object in the content, assigning an identifier to the object based on the processing, permitting viewer selection of the object identifier, and providing additional information for presentation to a viewer of the content responsive to viewer selection of the object identifier. The content in some embodiments comprises live video from at least one live video source. For example, the content may comprise at least a portion of a panoramic video comprising a combination of multiple live videos from respective ones of a plurality of video sources. The panoramic video may be digitally cropped and scaled before a resulting version of the content is provided for presentation to the viewer. A plurality of different digitally cropped and scaled versions of the content from the panoramic video can be generated and made available to the viewer.

  • Publication number: 20150229695
Abstract: A method comprises receiving content from a source, and generating multiple content streams each comprising the received content. Each content stream includes segments comprising respective portions of the received content. Different segmenting is utilized in generating respective ones of the content streams such that the segments in each of the content streams are offset in time relative to corresponding segments in the other ones of the streams. For example, generating the multiple content streams may comprise segmenting n content streams such that each content stream comprises segments of length Ts with corresponding segments in adjacent ones of the content streams being offset from one another by an offset Tg. Such an arrangement ensures that latency shift upon switching between one of the content streams and another content stream in a different set of multiple content streams at a client device can be limited to a value approximated by Tg.

  • Patent number: 8830235
Abstract: An irregular connectivity mesh representative of a surface having an arbitrary topology is processed using a non-uniform relaxation procedure. The non-uniform relaxation procedure minimizes differences between vectors normal to faces of pairs of triangles having a common edge and located within a designated neighborhood of a given vertex. The relaxation procedure may be used to construct subdivision and pyramid algorithms for performing processing operations such as upsampling, downsampling and filtering on irregular connectivity meshes. The signal processing algorithms may be utilized in applications such as smoothing, enhancement, editing, texture mapping and compression.

  • Patent number: 7555107
Abstract: The concept of “roaming” is extended to wireline networks with a network hosted technique which emulates a wireline telecommunications network user's environment when the user is using a wireline telecommunications device located at a physical location other than his or her “home” location, or when using a wireline or wireless telecommunications device other than his or her own regardless of the location. Any telephone or other telecommunications device being used by the user advantageously appears to be logically connected directly to his or her home telecommunications network, irrespective of the location of the telephone or other telecommunications device being used and the telecommunications network to which that device is actually connected.

  • Publication number: 20060121880
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling message transmission between multiple communication environments such as the Internet and a wireless communications network, wherein user authentication and billing may be performed and wherein access rights associated with one environment may be advantageously inherited by another. The method enables the transmission of electronic messages (such as e-mail or SMS text messages) by registering two or more individual identities, each represented by a communications handle (such as an e-mail address or a mobile phone number), and by associating each of these two or more registered identities with each other, binding them into an equivalence class of identities, wherein one or more attributes of at least one of these identities becomes associated with the other identity. Illustratively, a sender-pays business (i.e., billing) model for e-mail to mobile message transmission and access rights to an internal enterprise database from a mobile phone are advantageously enabled.

  • Patent number: 6995761
Abstract: A new progressive compression scheme for arbitrary topology, highly detailed and densely sampled meshes arising from geometry scanning. Meshes may have three distinct components: geometry, parameter, and connectivity information. The latter two do not contribute to the reduction of error in a compression setting. Using semi-regular meshes, parameter and connectivity information can be virtually eliminated. The semiregular meshes may be used with semi-regular wavelet transforms, zerotree coding, and subdivision based reconstruction.

  • Patent number: 6865587
Abstract: Interpolating filter banks are constructed for use with signals which may be represented as a lattice of arbitrary dimension d. The filter banks include M channels, where M is greater than or equal to two. A given filter bank is built by first computing a set of shifts ?i as D?1 ti, i=1, 2, . . . M?1, where ti is a set of coset representatives taken from a unit cell of the input signal lattice, and D is a dilation matrix having a determinant equal to M. A polynomial interpolation algorithm is then applied to determine weights for a set of M?1 predict filters Pi having the shifts ?i. A corresponding set of update filters Ui are then selected as Ui=P*i/M, where P*i is the adjoint of the predict filter Pi. The resulting predict and update filters are arranged in a lifting structure such that each of the predict and update filters are associated with a pair of the M channels of the filter bank.

  • Patent number: 6831638
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for generating consistent parameterizations for a set of meshes each of which includes data points representative of a corresponding surface. The consistent parameterizations preferably share the same base domain, and are generated using a net tracing algorithm. The net tracing algorithm involves determining for each of the meshes a net of paths having a connectivity substantially the same as that of the base domain. In an illustrative embodiment, the net tracing algorithm as applied to a given one of the meshes includes determining, for each edge in the base domain, a tentative path for use in the net of paths corresponding to the mesh. The tentative paths are then prioritized based on length, and selected ones of the tentative paths are used to construct a spanning tree of the base domain.

  • Patent number: 6801579
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for wireless signal transmission of signals from an array of two or more antennas, in which each signal to be transmitted is selected from a constellation of unitary space-time signals. Each unitary space-time signal is a unitary matrix, in which each column represents a respective antenna, each row represents a respective time interval, and each element represents a complex amplitude to be transmitted by a given antenna during a given time interval. In specific embodiments of the invention, the matrices of the signal constellation form a non-Abelian group having a positive diversity product, or a coset of such a group. In other embodiments, the signal constellation is a subset of such a group, and its multiplicative closure forms a finite non-Abelian group having a positive diversity product.

  • Patent number: 6778615
Abstract: Received symbols are decoded in a communication system using a maximum likelihood block noncoherent decoding algorithm. The noncoherent decoding algorithm utilizes a set of test words determined for a given block of symbols based on a corresponding set of crossover angles which specify transitions between the test words. Advantageously, the decoding algorithm provides exact maximum likelihood block decoding having a complexity which is independent of the data rate of the symbols and linear-logarithmic in the block length.

  • Patent number: 6724843
Abstract: Received symbols are decoded in a multiple-antenna communication system using lattice-based decoding. The symbols are generated using a modulation constellation, e.g., a diagonal modulation constellation, and the constellation is characterized as a lattice for decoding purposes. For example, if a given communication link of the multiple-antenna communication system includes M transmitter antennas and a single receiver antenna, the diagonal modulation constellation can be characterized as a lattice in M dimensions. A differential decoding operation for received differential symbols involves a determination of the closest point in the lattice corresponding to the constellation. This determination may be made in an efficient manner using a basis reduction algorithm which generates an approximately orthogonal basis for the lattice, and then utilizes component-wise rounding to determine the closest point.

  • Patent number: 6724842
Abstract: The method of differential communication for multiple transmitter antennas generalizes conventional coding of information in the phase shift between successive complex scalars signals used in single antenna communication to signals that are complex matrices. Each column of such a matrix represents a time sequence of signals emitted by a respective antenna of a multiple transmitter array. Preferably, the signal matrices are unitary matrices that form at least part of a finite group under multiplication. Data is encoded by making each transmitted signal the product of the previous signal and a selected one of the signal matrices.
