  • Patent number: 5702593
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating contaminated stormwater runoff from roads and adjacent lands. A multi-stage and self-contained integrated module is designed to collect the first flush of stormwater runoff (which contains the majority of pollutants) and to treat the pollutants using sedimentation, filtration and constructed wetlands. The apparatus is mass-produced to provide standardized hydrologic controls, important to the reliability of the constructed wetland component of the apparatus. Raw stormwater enters the central sedimentation chamber of the apparatus which is divided into multiple segments designed to provide a series of sedimentation/filtration chambers. At least one chamber is provided with a removable filter bulkhead. Effluent from the final sedimentation chamber is discharged to the constructed wetland system which surrounds the central sedimentation tank.

  • Patent number: 5653255
Abstract: A sewage treatment system includes a pair of substantially identical unitary fluid treatment modules, each module having a central sedimentation tank surrounded by a peripheral wetland. The sedimentation tanks are coupled through a dosing device to an input source of sewage and, as an outlet, to a leaching field. The dosing device includes a switching mechanism isolated from the fluids, which mechanism provides in one cycle for one treatment module to be filled with the incoming sewage while maintaining its outlet closed. When the liquid level in the sedimentation tank in the first treatment module reaches a predetermined level the dosing device switches the sewage input to the other treatment module, while opening the outlet from the first treatment module to the leaching field. The dosing device switching mechanism employs pinch valves arranged so that when the inlet on one treatment module is closed, the inlet on the other treatment module is substantially simultaneously opened.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating contaminated stormwater runoff from roads and adjacent lands. A multi-stage and self-contained system designed to collect the "first flush" of stormwater runoff (which contains the majority of pollutants) and to treat the pollutants using sedimentation, filtration and constructed wetlands. The apparatus is mass-produced to provide standardized hydrologic controls, important to the reliability of the constructed wetland component of the apparatus.Raw stormwater enters the central sedimentation chamber of the apparatus which is divided into multiple segments designed to provide a series of sedimentation/filtration chambers. Each chamber is divided by a removable filter bulkhead sequenced from coarse to fine sediment sizes. Effluent from the final sedimentation chamber is discharged to the constructed wetland system which surrounds the central sedimentation basin.

  • Patent number: 4652759
Abstract: A counterbalanced radiation detection system is provided which comprises a stand and a first and second radiation detectors tiltably connected with the stand. A torque transforming means is connected between the first and second radiation detectors for transforming the torque created by one of the radiation detectors opposite to the torque created by the other radiation detector.

  • Patent number: 4590378
Abstract: A counterbalanced radiation detection device comprises a radiation detector having a specific weight. It further comprises means connected with the radiation detector and the base for positioning the radiation detector in different heights with respect to the base and it also includes electronic component means movably mounted on the base for counterbalancing the weight of the radiation detector. Furthermore, means connected with the electronic component means and the radiation detector positioning means are provided for positioning the electronic component means in different heights with respect to the base opposite to the heights of the radiation detector.

  • Patent number: 4424586
Abstract: The X-ray apparatus contains an X-ray tube and a transition device for moving the X-ray tube between a vertical and a horizontal emission position. A first film cassette tray may be provided for vertical exposures. A second film cassette tray is provided for horizontal exposures. The X-ray apparatus further contains a mechanism for operationally connecting the second tray to the X-ray tube. This mechanism is designed such that the second tray is positioned in a waiting position outside the vertical X-ray beam when the X-ray tube is in its vertical emission position and such that the second tray is automatically transferred from the waiting position to a horizontal exposure position when the X-ray tube is moved from its vertical emission position to its horizontal emission position. The mechanism preferably contains a large number of arms and levers.

  • Patent number: 4129784
Abstract: A gamma camera has a plurality of exchangeable collimators, one of which is replaceably mounted in the ray inlet opening of the camera, while the others are placed on separate supports. The invention is particularly characterized in that the supports are swingably mounted upon a column one above the other. In the illustrated embodiment, the camera is swingable through about 90.degree. to a collimator exchange position, and each of the separate supports is swingable to a vertically aligned position, with resilient limiting of the swinging movement and resilient positioning of the support at the desired exchange position. Further, the collimators are carried on the supports by means of a series of vertically disposed coil springs, projections on the camera being relatively movable from above into grooves of the collimator at the exchange position, whereupon the collimator is so turned that it is securely prevented from falling out of the camera head.

  • Patent number: 3943366
Abstract: A collimator for a ray diagnosing device for taking pictures produced by gamma rays or similar penetrating rays consists of a honeycomblike constructed body with many holes, the walls of which absorb the rays. The invention is particularly characterized in that the walls of the collimator are made of strips which extend parallel to each other in their longitudinal directions and are so folded transversely to their longitudinal extension that when two strips are placed next to each other one side of a strip makes a series of holes with the adjacent side of the following strip, the holes having a symmetry axis which coincides with the line separating the two strips.

  • Patent number: 3934147
Abstract: A device for supporting a patient, having a carrying member and a horizontally extending lying support for the patient, with a motor for varying the distance between the support and a medicinal unit. The invention is particularly characterized by the provision of a spring scale between the patient support and its carrying member, having a switching member which can be shifted corresponding to the weight of the patient. Switching means are connected with the switching member for interrupting the current circuit of the motor, the distance between the switching means and the switching member being adjustable.
