  • Publication number: 20120282887
Abstract: The concept rides on the believed of ‘better be safe than sorry’ where the subscriber will register an event with anticipated end-time which the individual deems is vulnerable to cause her any potential harm. The event is then stored in a database with sufficient information for any emergency tracking and notification. At the end of the anticipated end time, a message will be sent from the server to the subscriber's wireless device requesting for safety confirmation, failing which the system will automatically send an alert notification message to a group of predefined emergency contacts through various channels and medias. The emergency message will also be posted to the subscriber's own social network services for mass notification. In addition, the subscriber has the option to trigger the location based tracking of his whole journey during the active event time if the individual wireless device is subscribed with the location base tracking system, such as global positioning system (GPS) service.

  • Patent number: 6865480
Abstract: A display method and apparatus for a navigation system for receiving traffic information and displaying traffic incidents in a manner easily and quickly comprehensible by a user of the navigation system. The navigation system applies various criteria to the traffic incidents and the route to the destination and determines an order of displaying the traffic incidents in accordance with the degrees of severity to the driving to the intended or calculated route to the destination. In other aspect, instead of assigning the listing order, colors are assigned to the traffic incident icons based on the degrees of severity.

  • Publication number: 20040260464
Abstract: A “Point of Interest (POI)” search method for navigation system in which POIs are searched through a search-by-street method which can be used at any stage of the conventional POI search process. The POI search method includes the steps of starting a POI search process where POIs are selectable either by a place type of a place name, specifying a name of a street to retrieve POIs along the street, and displaying a list of POIs retrieved along the street to select one of them. The search process further includes a step of specifying a name of a city, thereby retrieving POIs along the specified street within the specified city. The search process further includes a step of specifying a first intersection of the street and a second intersection of the street, thereby retrieving POIs along the specified street between the first and second intersections.

  • Patent number: 6805671
Abstract: A method and a device for measuring blood pressure and heart rate in an environment comprising extreme levels of noise and vibrations is disclosed. Blood pressure signals corresponding to the Korotkoff sounds are detected using an array of primary acoustic sensors, placed on the patient's skin over the brachial artery. A secondary acoustic transducer is placed on the outside of a pressure cuff the patient away for detecting noise and vibrations. Pressure is applied to the artery using the pressure cuff forcing the artery to close. The pressure is then reduced and while reducing the pressure the acoustic signals detected by the first and second acoustic sensor as well as a signal indicative of the pressure applied to the artery are provided to a processor. The signals provided by the primary acoustic sensors are then processed using a combination of focused beamforming and planar wave beamforming.
