  • Publication number: 20160165855
Abstract: A cantilever perch for a bird feeder is made from a thin strip or ribbon of springy material, such as a stainless steel. Being convex in cross section, the perch is inherently rigid and able to bear load and remain straight. When over-loaded however, as by a large bird or rodent, the perch suddenly flattens, kinks or buckles in a narrow zone across its width causing the cantilever portion to bend sharply with a snap. The unwanted intruder experiences a sudden and terrifying free-fall to the ground. Now unloaded, the perch automatically snaps back to its original straight rigid shape without damage.

  • Patent number: 6830156
Abstract: A one piece hanging file made from a continuous web of a flexible sheet material. In one embodiment, small loops are heat-welded at intervals along the strip creating channels or hems for removable hangers. Larger loops between the channels become the file pockets. In another embodiment spring clips clamp small loops of the strip and have notched overhanging ends to engage the support rails. In another embodiment, laminated film is welded directly to the edges of the hanger strips. In all embodiments the filed objects, such as compact discs, rise smoothly out of the looped file pocket when a hanger is lifted. In all embodiments, an opening or aperture made in the center of the looped bottom prevents round media such as CDs from accidentally rolling out of the pocket.

  • Patent number: 5845992
Abstract: A novel container called a tire tube is made from whole, used tires. They are first turned inside out or inverted. Several tire tubes may be connected together side by side with holes aligned sing fasteners such as screws. With the ends sealed the tire tube may be used as a container for toxic substance storage, or sand to act as a highway bumper. With the ends left open the tire tube may be used as a conduit, or a culvert. Supported to allow rotation at a slight angle to the horizontal and with the higher end being fed material, the rotating tire tube tumbles the material to the exit end. With rock added, the result of tumbling is a pulverizing action. By adding organic material and keeping it moist the rotating tire tube becomes a continuous-action composter.
