    Abstract: Branched, quaternary polyoxyalkylene copolyesters are described which are prepared by esterifying an oxyalkylated primary fatty amine and an at least trihydric oxyalkylated alkanol or an oxyalkylated polyamine using a dicarboxylic acid or a dicarboxylic anhydride with polycondensation, and quaternizing the esterification product obtained using ethylene oxide or propylene oxide in the presence of a mineral acid or carboxylic acid. The novel, branched, quaternary polyoxyalkylene copolyesters are used as demulsifiers and corrosion inhibitors in the processing of crude oil emulsions.
