  • Patent number: 8427316
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for tracking tampered with RFID tags. In some implementations, an RFID tag includes a tearable substrate including at least a portion of an RFID circuit. The portion of the RFID circuit is substantially destroyable in response to at least an attempt to remove the tag from a surface. In addition, the RFID includes an adhesive layer adjacent at least a portion of the tearable substrate and configured to affix the tag to the surface.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 20, 2008
Date of Patent: April 23, 2013
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
    Inventor: Wolf Bielas
  • Patent number: 7898482
Abstract: The present disclosure includes a system and method for conducting radio frequency signals using multiple layers. In some implementations, a signal transfer element configured to passively transfer RF signals between a first region and a second region includes a first conductor layer having a first continuous conductor configured as a first portion of a first antenna, a transmission line, and a first portion of a second antenna. The first antenna and the second antenna are configured to wirelessly receive and transmit Radio Frequency (RF) signals. The signal transfer element also includes a second conductor layer having a second continuous conductor configured as a second portion of the first antenna, a ground plane, and a second portion of the second antenna.

  • Publication number: 20080129512
Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) system include a reader and a tag. The RFID reader includes at least one reader antenna, the reader antenna is configured as a lossy loop antenna with a beam coverage area. The RFID tag includes a loop antenna, the tag loop antenna cooperates with the reader antenna to receive and transmit radio frequency signals between the reader antenna and the tag antenna when the tag is located with a near field distance from the reader antenna.
