  • Patent number: 4989825
Abstract: Support components or supports for supporting calender rolls for treating web-shaped materials comprise walls which surround a roll stand of the calender and are slidably arranged at guideways provided at the roll stand. Each support component supports an associated calender roll having a predetermined diameter, and a predetermined support length of each support component in a predetermined direction of the guideways is greater than the predetermined diameter of the associated calender roll. The walls of adjacent support components define a predetermined numbr of pairs of mutually facing edges. At least one pair of mutually facing edges between two adjacent support components contains projections and complementary shaped recesses. When such two adjacent support components are slidably displaced toward one another, the projections extend into the correspondingly structured complementary shaped recesses.

  • Patent number: 4898643
Abstract: In a headbox system for a papermaking machine with an adjustable distribution of the fiber stock suspension or pulp over the web width, the flow in the delivery slice is controlled in such a way that, across the web width, also the distribution of the fibers in respect of fiber orientation and quantity has a desired profile. For this purpose, the flow of the fiber stock suspension is controlled such that in the event of a change in the distribution of the fiber stock suspension across the web width, the horizontal component of the flow direction in the delivery slice remains, at all locations, always in the predetermined machine direction and thus transverse flows are avoided and the flow rate in the delivery slice has a predeterminate profile.

  • Patent number: 4864703
Abstract: In a press roll having a stationary support member and a roll shell rotatable about the stationary support member and movable in a predeterminate support or pressing direction throughout the entire width of the press roll, the provision of guide devices for the rotatable roll shell enable accomplishing an axial and radial guiding of the rotatable roll shell with minimum friction and without using roller bearings. These guide devices comprise hydrostatic support or pressure elements which can be adjusted in the predeterminate support or pressing direction. Bearing surfaces of the hydrostatic support elements and running or travel surfaces at the roll shell are spherically designed, for instance provided in mirror-image relationship to one another at both ends of the press roll, or at only one end thereof, or at the central or intermediate region of the press roll.

  • Patent number: 4858292
Abstract: The controlled deflection roll comprises a rotatable roll shell supported at a stationary support member by means of a plurality of hydrostatic pressure elements. The hydrostatic pressure elements are sealingly movably guided by guide structure, for example, bores, which define cylinder chambers. Each cylinder chamber is connected by a feed system comprising a feed channel to a source of a hydraulic pressure medium. Between each feed channel and the related hydrostatic pressure element, there is arranged a damping body provided with at least one throttle location, for example throttle bores, through which the hydraulic pressure medium can flow. The damping body defines essentially the only connection between the feed channel and the cylinder chamber.

  • Patent number: 4823690
Abstract: Between an uppermost roll and a lowermost roll there are arranged intermediate rolls mounted with their axles in levers. These levers extend across the width of the roll stand of the calender and are vertically pivotably suspended at a pivot at the roll stand. Nip relieving devices act upon these levers and are supported at a support defining a support location at the roll stand. Each pivot is arranged at an associated bearing element which is elevationally adjustable and which is located at the rear side of the roll stand remote from the rolls. If the position of the intermediate rolls change in vertical direction, the related bearing elements are correspondingly individually and vertically displaced, so that the levers are brought into an essentially horizontal position at which the axles of the intermediate rolls and the pivots of the related levers are located in each case in a related horizontal plane.

  • Patent number: 4736678
Abstract: A hydraulic adjustment motor containing a piston-and-cylinder unit is provided at the roll surface of a roll to be moved to position the roll surface relative to another roll surface of a further roll. Each adjustment motor is arranged between the related roll surface to be moved and its related roll stand. A regulation device is arranged between a pressure source, the pressure chamber of the adjustment motor and a hydraulic medium vessel. This regulation device regulates impingement of the pressure chamber with different pressures up to the maximum pressure of the pressure source and regulates the outflow of a selected volume of the hydraulic medium out of the pressure chamber, correlated to the desired lowering of each roll surface, during lowering of the roll surface and for maintaining a residual volume of the hydraulic medium. Consequently, there is provided a defined relative position between the roll surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4556454
Abstract: In a wet press for dewatering a web of material, for instance a web of paper, a contact pressure device presses against a rotating roll and exerts a pressure which increases in the travel direction of the web of paper. For this purpose, several rows of contact pressure elements are arranged sequentially in the travel direction of the web of paper. In each row the contact pressure elements are arranged side by side transversely to the travel direction of the web of paper. In order to circumvent a differential dewatering at the location of the contact pressure elements and at the gaps between the contact pressure elements of a row, the contact pressure elements of successive rows are shifted or staggered in relation to one another transversely to the web of material such that they mutually overlap. This prevents the arisal of strips in the paper being processed.

  • Patent number: 4509237
Abstract: An arrangement containing a controlled deflection roll which is supported by means of support or pressure elements against a roll support or beam. There is also provided a regulation arrangement for regulating the position of the roll shell, wherein the position of the roll shell at least at both of its opposed ends is detected by position sensors or feelers and deviations from a set or reference value are processed into two adjustment or positioning magnitudes which act upon the support or pressure elements. Both of the adjustment magnitudes are formed while taking into account a possible difference between both of the reference value-actual value differences and thereafter weighted and grouped together with further adjustment magnitudes and inputted to the support or pressure elements.

  • Patent number: 4384922
Abstract: An installation for charging a multi-ply headbox, wherein the mixing pumps of the stock infeed systems for the stock which is diluted with water, i.e. the stock slurries, are driven by a single drive motor by means of a common shaft. Additionally, a pressure differential-regulation device is provided for the fine tuning or coordination of the pressures of the stock suspensions in the headbox. Signals are inputted by means of pressure feelers or sensors to the pressure differential-regulation device. As a function of the deviations from a set or reference value there are activated regulation valves which are arranged in bypass lines shunting the mixing pumps. The bypass lines or conduits flow communicate with sieve water containers connected with the suction side of the mixing pumps. Through these measures there is avoided mechanical damage to the headbox, particularly to the partition walls arranged internally thereof.

  • Patent number: 4357743
Abstract: A controlled deflection roll possesses a roll shell which is radially movable in at least one plane in relation to a roll support. Position feelers or sensors are arranged at the ends of the roll shell. These position feelers control regulators operatively associated with pressure or support elements located between the roll support and the roll shell, as a function of deviations from a predetermined reference or set position, in a manner such that the roll shell is maintained in the reference or set position. It is possible to influence the pressure or support elements by the position feelers either equally or unequally, and specifically, with decreasing intensity in the presence of increasing distance from the related position feeler.

  • Patent number: 4319522
Abstract: A rolling mill contains a controlled deflection roll possessing a roll shell movable, in the pressure or contact plane, radially in relation to a roll support or beam for rotatably mounting the roll shell. The ends of the roll shell are guided in appropriate guide means. The roll shell, in the pressing or contact position of the controlled deflection roll, bears against fixed stops or impact members, so that there is formed a fixed roll. A regulation device serves for determining the magnitude of the impact forces. As the impact or stop member there can be preferably used the ends of the guide means or guides of the roll shell. The impact force is formed by pressure or support elements of the controlled deflection roll or by pistons mounted at the region of the guide means. There also can be provided an external contact or pressing device.
