    Abstract: A process for the preparation of an oxirane of the formula ##STR1## in which Y is chlorine or phenyl,X is oxygen or CH.sub.2, andZ is hydrogen or halogen, comprising reacting dimethyl sulphide with methyl bromide in the presence of an inert organic diluent thereby to produce trimethylsulphonium bromide of the formula(CH.sub.3).sub.3 S.sup..sym. Br.sup..crclbar.and reacting the trimethylsulphonium bromide with a ketone of the formula ##STR2## in the presence of a base and in the presence of an inert organic diluent, at a temperature between about 0.degree. C. and 60.degree. C. The end products are produced in high yield and are known intermediates for known fungicides.

    Abstract: Hydroxybenzaldoxime O-ethers of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 represents alkyl,are obtained by a process in which a tert.-butoxy-benzaldoxime of the formula ##STR2## is reacted with alkylating agents of the formulaR.sup.1 --Xin whichR.sup.1 has the abovementioned meaning andX represents halogen or OSO.sub.2 OR.sup.1,whereinR.sup.1 again has the abovementioned meaning,in the presence of a strong base and phase transfer catalyst and in the presence of a diluent at temperatures between 0.degree. C. and 50.degree. C., and the products are then treated with anhydrous acid at temperatures between 0.degree. C. and 50.degree. C.,Hydroxybenzaldoxime O-ethers can be used as intermediate products for the synthesis of compounds with a fungicidal, insecticidal and antimycotic activity. The tert.-butoxy-benzalodoxime starting material is a new compound.

The process is carried out in the presence of potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide powder in an inert organic diluent at 0.degree. to 60.degree. C. The products are useful as intermediates for the formation of plant growth regulants and fungicides.

C. by continuously removing the water formed and subsequently working up in the manner that is described in the specification.
