  • Patent number: 6527995
Abstract: A process for producing a thermoplastic polyurethane film by means of sintering a particulate thermoplastic polyurethane in a heated mold, is described. The thermoplastic polyurethane has: (i) a melt index of 20 to 100, measured at 190° C. and under an applied force of 21.2 N; (ii) a relative solution viscosity of 1.15 to 1.45, the relative solution viscosity being determined by, measuring the viscosity (a) of a solution of 0.4 grams of the thermoplastic polyurethane in 99.7 grams N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone containing 0.1% dibutylamine at 25° C., measuring the viscosity (b) of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone containing 0.1% dibutylamine at 25° C., and dividing viscosity (a) by viscosity (b); and (iii) a Shore hardness of 80 to 98.

  • Patent number: 6486243
Abstract: A light-colored thermoplastic molding composition comprising a polyurethane elastomer is disclosed. The polyurethane which is the reaction product of at least one polyol, at least one organic diisocyanate and at least one polyol chain extender contains one or more pentaerythritol diphosphites color stabilizers conforming to a specific formula exhibits improved color stability and improved processability. The process for preparation entails introducing the stabilizer before the reaction has been completed.

  • Patent number: 6355762
Abstract: A process for the continuous preparation of melt processable polyurethane elastomers having improved softening behavior is disclosed. The process entails reacting a polyisocyanate, a polyol and a chain extender, which have a temperature of at least 170° C., in a static mixer, wherein the reaction mixture is prepared. The reaction mixture is then metered into an extruder into which optional auxiliaries and/or further components are fed.

  • Publication number: 20010053841
Abstract: A molding composition comprising thermoplastic polyurethane is disclosed. The polyurethane is characterized in having ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and elongation at break (EAB) values after hot storage which are, each, at least 60% of the corresponding value before hot storage, glass transition temperature equal to or lower than −50° C., UTS and EAB values after hydrolytic storage which are, each, at least 80% of the corresponding value before hydrolytic storage, and Shore A hardness of 70 to 95. The polyurethane is a product of a reaction comprising an aliphatic diisocyanate, a mixture of polyols and a chain extender and contains a UV stabilizer, an antioxidant and an optional anti-hydrolysis agent.

  • Patent number: 6294637
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the continuous preparation of melt-processable polyurethanes, wherein an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer is intensively mixed with chain extender at temperatures of <200° C., and the mixture obtained is converted to melt processable polyurethane in a twin screw extruder under quasi-adiabatic reaction conditions.
