  • Patent number: 9745698
Abstract: A roll for a machine for producing and/or processing a fibrous web, such as a paper, board or tissue web, has a circular-cylindrical main roll body. A roll cover covers the circumferential surface of the main roll body, at least in some segments. A pressure- and/or temperature-sensitive sensor is embedded in the roll cover. The sensor connects to an electrical and/or optical signal line. The signal line has a first line segment inside the roll. A second line segment extends substantially outside the roll and is connectable to a signal excitation and/or signal processing unit at one end. An electrical and/or optical rotational connection connects the first and second line segments to allow the line segments to be rotated relative to one another. When the roll is rotated, the first line segment rotates together with the main roll body. The second line segment does not have to follow the rotation.

  • Patent number: 8474333
Abstract: An industrial roll is provided, comprising a transverse force transducing fiber Bragg sensor that is embedded in the roll cover and/or located in-between the roll cover and the roll core of the industrial roll. The transverse force transducing fiber Bragg sensor comprises a fiber optical waveguide having a fiber core and a fiber cladding, and a stud element being nonpositively joined to a partial area of the circumferential surface of the fiber optical waveguide. The fiber optical waveguide comprises a Bragg grating located in the fiber core, whereby the dimension of the partial area in the longitudinal direction of the fiber is longer than a grating spacing of the Bragg grating. The partial area is located at a section of the fiber optical waveguide housing the Bragg grating, and at least a first component of the stud element is formed from a first material having a Young's modulus of less than 10 kN/mm2.

  • Publication number: 20050063450
Abstract: A system, a method and a component using thermally stimulatable substances for the temperature measurement of thermal barrier coatings are provided. The a thermal barrier coating comprises a stimulatable substance as high-lighter and a substance to adhere the thermal stimulatable substance in the coating. The stimulatable substance having emission lines which vary in response to a temperature of a coated component. For example, the present invention can be used in combustion turbines or combustion machines.

  • Patent number: 5953122
Abstract: A small modulation current is applied to the light source of a Sagnac-type fiber optic gyroscope to increase accuracy and/or stability of scale factor (open loop configuration) and to reduce bias errors and random walk (closed-loop configuration). The phase and amplitude of the modulation current are controlled through a control circuit whose reference is picked off at a first beamsplitter in series with the light source. In such a way, light emitted from the light source into the interferometer contains no modulation. The elimination of modulation removes a source that would otherwise cause deterioration of gyroscope stability resulting from light returning from the interferometer or due to electrical interference, thus limiting measurement accuracy.
