  • Publication number: 20080014368
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for refinishing vehicles using infrared technology for drying and curing the paint coating. The method comprises the steps: A) applying a layer of a pigmented coating composition over a vehicle body or vehicle body part, subsequently applying a layer of clear coating composition, or applying alternatively a layer of pigmented top coating composition over the vehicle body or vehicle body part and B) curing the coating layers applied in step A), directly after completion of the application step, without interposing a final evaporation phase, by exposing to infrared radiation using a short-wave infrared radiator, a radiator distance in the range of 20 to 60 cm being adjusted and the quotient of radiator power in Kilowatt and radiator distance in centimeter ranges from 0.07 to 0.15.

  • Patent number: 6528126
Abstract: A process for multi-coat lacquering by applying a coat of filler and/or other coating compounds on to a substrate and then a top coat consisting of a base coat/clear lacquer construction or of a pigmented one-coat finish, at least one of the coats in the multi-coat construction being prepared from a coating compound which is at least partially curable by high-energy radiation, and irradiating this (these) coat(s) with UV radiation and IR radiation, a UV source having a proportion of IR radiation in its emission spectrum being, used for the irradiation with UV and IR radiation and, by alternately adding a UV filter and an IR filter and/or alternately adding and removing a UV filter or an IR filter in front of the radiation source, at least two irradiation intervals being formed, during which irradiation is variously carried out with UV radiation, IR radiation or UV radiation and IR radiation simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 6495201
Abstract: A process for the multi-layer repair coating of substrates, wherein a base coat layer of a water-based base coat coating composition is applied to a precoated substrate and a clear coat layer of a transparent clear coat coating composition is applied to the base coat layer thus obtained, characterised in that the base coat layer of the colour- and/or special effect-imparting water-based base coat coating composition is applied in three successive spray passes, and each spray pass is executed such that uniform, adjacent and substantially non-overlapping coating strips are applied to the substrate surface to be coated.

  • Patent number: 5533674
Abstract: A drying nozzle is comprised of a tube for mounting on a nozzle head of a spray gun. The body contains inlet slits for ambient air entering one tube end which taper in a direction of the interior of the tube. The body expands toward the other tube end. Upon mounting the body on the nozzle head the narrowest region of the tube between the tapering region of the inlet slits and the expanding region of the tube lies directly behind an air outlet opening when seen in direction of flow of the air passing out of the air outlet opening of the nozzle head. Upon supplying compressed air in the center of the tubular body a negative pressure in the tube interior is produced and as a result of which ambient air is drawn into one tube end and passes out at the other tube end together with the compressed air.
