  • Patent number: 6481840
Abstract: A method of improving automatic document feed of media printed with phase change inks coats the surface of the phase change inks on the media with fine particles. The particles may include PMMA, glass bead, silica particles, crushed glass particles, kaolin clay, micronized PE and PTFE, calcium carbonate powder, hard inks or toner powder. The particles may be applied to the surface of a transfix drum by oil transfer or electrostatically prior to jetting the phase change ink, or in the case of hard inks may be jetted onto the surface of the transfix drum (offset) with the phase change ink or onto the print media (direct) after application of the phase change ink in an overprint printing process. Also the particles may be applied by a pair of finishing rollers after the media has been printed with the phase change inks, either in a direct or offset print process, the finishing roller on the print side being coated with the fine particles.

  • Patent number: 6464766
Abstract: The invention includes colorless compounds having a central core and at least two arms extending from the core. The core can comprise one or more atoms. The at least two arms have the formula In such formula, Z is a segment of one or more atoms; j is an integer from 1 to about 300 and can be different at one of the at least two arms than at another of the at least two arms; Q is an alkyl or aryl group and can vary amongst different alkyl and aryl groups within the colorless compound; and n is an integer greater than 1 and can be different at one of the at least two arms than at another of the at least two arms. In other aspects, the invention encompasses phase change inks incorporating the above-described colorless compound as toughening agent, and methods of printing with such phase change inks.

  • Patent number: 6048925
Abstract: Urethane resins are made by reacting selected nucleophiles, including alcohols, with an isocyanate. The order of addition of the isocyanate and the different nucleophiles can tailor the distribution of mixed urethane molecules in the final resin product. The final resin product can be colored or uncolored and include a toughening agent. The isocyanate-derived resin materials are useful as ingredients as phase change ink carrier compositions used to make phase change ink jet inks.

  • Patent number: 6028138
Abstract: Urethane resins are made by reacting selected nucleophiles, such as alcohols including a hydroxyl containing toughening agent, with an isocyanate. A colored urethane resin is combined to form a phase change ink. The order of addition of the isocyanate and the different nucleophiles can tailor the distribution of di-urethane and mixed urethane/urea molecules in the final resin product. The isocyanate-derived resin materials are useful as ingredients as phase change ink carrier compositions used to make phase change ink jet inks.
