  • Patent number: 6601880
Abstract: The method and apparatus are for making a knot with first and second rope-shaped end portions of flexible material wrapped around an article. The method comprises steps of (a) guiding the end portions along a predetermined path; (b) (i) nipping the first end portion at a first point of the predetermined path, (ii) nipping the second end portion at a second point of the predetermined path, and (iii) nipping the second end portion at a third point of the predetermined path; (c) cutting the second end portion between the second and third points to obtain a free end thereof; (d) moving the end portions to obtain a loop; (e) releasing the first end portion from the guiding of step (a) to obtain a free end thereof; and (f) inserting the free ends into the loop to form and tighten the knot.

  • Patent number: 4619102
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sealing a film wrapping. A charge or load wherein an anvil is first brought into contact with the charge and then the wrapping operation commences. After the film is wrapped sufficiently to hold itself to the charge, a clamp holding the end of the film is released and is then moved to a retracted position where it stays until the wrapping is almost completed. When a first lap of film has been wrapped over the anvil, a jaw of the clamp is moved into position adjacent the anvil and a second lap of film is wound over the anvil and jaw. Next the heat sealer is operated to cooperate with the anvil and seal the two laps together and a second jaw of the clamp is moved to operative position to clamp the second or last lap of film which is then cut between the clamp and the heat seal so formed.

  • Patent number: 4432185
Abstract: A pellet wrapper adapted to wrap a pallet with a web material comprises, an anvil member movable into position against the side of the pallet, a clamp movable with the anvil and adapted to hold the end of the web with which the pallet is to be wrapped. With the clamp and anvil so positioned adjacent the pallet, the wrapping of the pallet is begun. After the web has wrapped around the pallet at least sufficient turns so that the web overlies the end retained in the clamp and secures this end portion against the side of the pallet, the clamp is then released and retracted and the wrapping of the pallet completed to wrap the pallet and then back to overlapping the layer of web material initially applied to the pallet while forming said web in about the last 11/4 turns into roped form.

  • Patent number: 4415399
Abstract: A handle applicator having a first and second gripping means movable alternatively between a pick-up station and an application station applying handles to articles delivered to the application station, when an article and one of the gripping means carrying a handle are in position, an applicator moves to press ends of a strap handle (with adhesive pre-applied) carried by the gripping mechanism onto the article and the article with handle applied thereto is ejected from the application station.

  • Patent number: 4286367
Abstract: An apparatus for inserting a resilient band on a container, which comprises a support member adapted to receive on its top wall the container, a first set of segments arranged circumferentially about the support member, a second set of segments arranged circumferentially about the first set of segments below the top wall of the first set of segments to define therewith a band-receiving area, and a pair of springs opposing, in one case, the downward movement of the support member and, in the other case, the downward movement of the first set of segments; the second spring has a higher spring modulus than that of the first spring so that downward movement of the container on the support member causes, first, a radial outward movement of the first set of segments to stretch the band until the container contacts the first set of segments whereupon the first set of segments moves downward within the second set of segments and the band moves in engagement onto the container.

  • Patent number: 4177546
Abstract: The disclosure herein describes a device for inserting a plastic bail band on a parenteral solution bottle equipped, adjacent its bottom edge, with a band-receiving recess; the device consists of a hollow cylindrically shaped member on top of which is placed the band and in the side wall of which is formed a series of radially displaceable fingers; a bottle-receiving plunger is slidingly mounted within the cylindrical member effecting, when actuated, radial displacement of the fingers; the opening of the fingers is calculated so that the fingers never touch the bottle as the band is slid along the bottle into the band-receiving recess.

  • Patent number: 4045070
Abstract: A handle made of thermoplastic material and consisting of an endless band and of a bail unitarily connected to the band. The bail includes a pair of arm portions having at each end thereof a flat connecting portion joined to generally diametrically opposed portions of the band and having a reduced cross-section compared to the cross-section of the remaining portion of the arm portion. The handle is used principally to suspend bottles for administering intravenous solution to patients and the particular construction of the handle insures that, when the bottle is in an inverted suspended position, it is in an accurate vertical position. This control for the vertical positioning of the bottle is obtained by a hinge action at the reduced cross-section portion of each arm.
