Abstract: The use of 3-arylacrylic esters I ##STR1## where Ar is an aryl radical which can additionally carry substituents,R.sup.1 is the residue of an n-hydric aliphatic polyol having up to 20 carbon atoms, where the carbon chain can be interrupted by up to 9 non-adjacent oxygen atoms, or of an n-hydric cyclo-aliphatic polyol having 5 to 20 carbon atoms in which ring carbon atoms can also be replaced by non-adjacent oxygen atoms,R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are hydrogen or C.sub.1 --C.sub.4 -alkyl, andn is a number from l to 10,as stabilizers, in particular against the action of light, for non-living organic material.

Abstract: Stabilizer mixture for organic material, in particular for plastics, comprising(a) one or more chroman derivatives of the general formula I ##STR1## (b) one or more organic phosphites of the general formula II ##STR2## or an organic phosphonite of the formula III ##STR3## or mixtures of the phosphites II and the phosphonite III and c) one or more amines of the general formula IV ##STR4## where the components (a) and (b) are present in the ratio of from 1:5 to 1:14 by weight and the component (c) is present in an amount of from 0.01 to 2.0% of the weight of (a)+(b) in the stabilizer mixture.

Abstract: 2-Hydroxy-4-(2'-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl aryl ketones I ##STR1## where Ar is substituted or unsubstituted aryl, are prepared by reacting 2,4-dihydroxyphenyl aryl ketones II ##STR2## with ethylene carbonate in the presence of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of a carboxylic acid as catalyst and purified with sodium dithionite.
