  • Publication number: 20180054260
Abstract: Distributed communications systems providing and supporting radio frequency (RF) communication services and digital data services, and related components and methods are disclosed. The RF communication services can be distributed over optical fiber to client devices, such as remote units for example. Power can also be distributed over electrical medium that is provided to distribute digital data services, if desired, to provide power to remote communications devices and/or client devices coupled to the remote communications devices for operation. In this manner, as an example, the same electrical medium used to transport digital data signals in the distributed antenna system can also be employed to provide power to the remote communications devices and/or client devices coupled to the remote communications devices.

  • Publication number: 20170273018
Abstract: Power management for remote units in a distributed communication system. Power can be managed for a remote unit configured to power modules and devices that may require more power to operate than power available to the remote unit. For example, the remote unit may be configured to include power-consuming remote unit modules to provide distributed antenna system-related services. As another example, the remote unit may be configured to provide power through powered ports in the remote unit to external power-consuming devices. Depending on the configuration of the remote unit, the power-consuming remote unit modules and/or external power-consuming devices may demand more power than is available at the remote unit. In this instance, the power available at the remote unit can be distributed to the power-consuming modules and devices based on the priority of services desired to be provided by the remote unit.

  • Patent number: 9699723
Abstract: Power management for a remote antenna unit(s) (RAUs) in a distributed antenna system. Power can be managed for an RAU configured to power modules and devices that may require more power to operate than power available to the RAU. For example, the RAU may be configured to include power-consuming RAU modules to provide distributed antenna system-related services. As another example, the RAU may be configured to provide power through powered ports in the RAU to external power-consuming devices. Depending on the configuration of the RAU, the power-consuming RAU modules and/or external power-consuming devices may demand more power than is available at the RAU. In this instance, the power available at the RAU can be distributed to the power-consuming modules and devices based on the priority of services desired to be provided by the RAU.

  • Patent number: 9592578
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an assembly to couple an optical fiber to an opto-electronic component includes providing the optical fiber having an end section with a front face to couple light in and out of the optical fiber, providing a housing to encase the end section of the optical fiber. The housing is formed with an opening to receive the optical fiber. The method further includes inserting the optical fiber in the opening such that the end section of the optical fiber is disposed inside the housing, attaching the optical fiber to a surface of the housing arranged to form a boundary of the opening, and aligning the front face of the optical fiber to the opto-electronic component.

  • Publication number: 20160173201
Abstract: Optical fiber-based distributed communications systems that provide and support both RF communication services and digital data services are disclosed herein. The RF communication services and digital data services can be distributed over optical fiber to client devices, such as remote antenna units for example. In certain embodiments, digital data services can be distributed over optical fiber separate from optical fiber distributing RF communication services. In other embodiments, digital data services can be distributed over common optical fiber with RF communication services. For example, digital data services can be distributed over common optical fiber with RF communication services at different wavelengths through wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) and/or at different frequencies through frequency-division multiplexing (FDM).
