  • Patent number: 6193611
Abstract: A disk-type flexible coupling, specifically for installation into the drive train of a motor vehicle between a combustion engine and a transmission, has a first coupling half. The first coupling half, by use of two side disks which are connected for torsional strength on the outer circumference, encloses a second clutch half which is formed by at least one center disk which is assigned to one hub. The coupling halves are interconnected through flexible coupling elements and have limited torsion relative to each other. The side disks border a liquid-tight inside chamber which is filled with a damping medium and which receives the center disk. In the inside chamber, a floating damping ring is provided which has limited torsion relative to the two coupling halves. The damping ring, together with the first coupling half, forms a first displacement chamber. The damping ring, together with the second coupling half, forms at least one second displacement chamber. The volume of both displacement chambers is variable.

  • Patent number: 6168525
Abstract: A clutch for a two-mass flywheel of an internal combustion engine includes a first half-coupling and a second-half coupling. Both half-couplings are, within the bounds provided, torsionally twistable relative to the other. The half-couplings are connected to each other through elastic clutch elements. Side-disks form an inner, leakproof compartment containing a center disk. In the radially outer regions of the compartment resides at least one displacement chamber that is capable of being filled and which has a throttle orifice. The displacement chamber is bound circumferentially by two first tappets which are part of one half-coupling, as well as by a second tappet which is part of the other half-coupling. The second tappet divides the displacement chamber into two sectional chambers. At least one of the tappets includes a stationary tappet piece and a movable tappet piece which is movable in circumferential direction and delimits the respective partial chamber.

  • Patent number: 5582075
Abstract: A double-counterpoised flywheel for an internal combustion engine. A counterweight is disposed on the engine side and another counterweight is disposed on the transmission side, both counterweights allowing limited mutual rotation through the intermediary of elastic members. A damping system is arranged between the two counterweights and parallel to the elastic members. The two counterweights bear on each other radially and axially through an antifriction bearing. The inner race of the antifriction bearing is mounted between a stop face of the primary mass and a holder disk that is secured to the end face of the primary mass on the power take-off side. The holder disk is provided with at least two pins which are created by driving them out of the material of the holder disk ("part-shearing") toward one and the same side of the holder disk. The end face of the hub of the primary mass is provided with holes for receiving the pins, which pins are pinch-fitted into the holes.

  • Patent number: 5194045
Abstract: A resilient coupling has a hydraulic damping appliance for torsional oscillations. Between a first and a second coupling half there is provided a suspended damping ring, which is not connected in a form-locking manner with either of the two coupling halves, but which forms displacement chambers of different sizes with both coupling halves. In this way the coupling is in a position to counteract torsional oscillations having small amplitudes with weak damping and oscillations having large amplitudes with strong damping. From the kinematic point of view the suspended damping ring is at any one time a component of the first or the second coupling half.

  • Patent number: 5052978
Abstract: An elastic coupling in disk construction consists of a coupling half (2) forming a tight inner space (11) which can be filled with damping medium, and a further coupling half (1) comprising an intermediate disk (6) and a hub (3). In addition, there is provided a further coupling element (12) which is connected to both coupling halves (1, 2) by tangentially arranged springs (24, 25, 26) spaced around the circumference. The arrangement is such that, at first, weak first springs (24) for low torque come into play, which first springs are followed by stronger second springs (25) up to the rated torque of the effective range. For still higher torques, the effective range of strong third springs (26) follows. At the circumference of the intermediate disk (6) and of the further coupling element (12) there are radial surfaces (13, 14), which, with corresponding surfaces (15) at the circumference of the interior space, form displacement chambers (16) and bring about a stepwise damping in dependence on the twist angle.

  • Patent number: 5017179
Abstract: A flexible coupling of a disk construction. One coupling half includes outside side disks and a radially exterior flange joining the side disks for enclosing an inner space for holding damping liquid. The other coupling half includes one or a plurality of middle disks disposed in the inner space. Flexible coupling elements join the disks to move together. For damping oscillation, a plurality of displacement chambers are defined at spaced intervals around the disks, each between a radially extending circumferential end wall in the middle disk and a radial surface defined on a bolt or the like extending between the outer disks. Throttle gaps control the exit of the damping fluid from the displacement chamber.

  • Patent number: 4884996
Abstract: An elastic coupling (1) of disc construction and of the kind in which two coupling halves (2, 3) rotationally interlock and have helical compression springs (5) tangentially arranged in ports (4) in the coupling halves, which transmit torque from one coupling half to the other. So as to avoid the springs curving outwards at high rotational speed and/or with a low loading, under the effect of centrifugal force, sliding members (10) are loosely inserted into the ports. The sliding member can either be constructed with a concave groove (11) which partially surrounds the spring from outside and is disposed between the coils of the spring and its respective ports, or in the shape of a bar (10a) which is loosely inserted coaxially into the spring.

  • Patent number: 4838832
Abstract: There is provided a tooth system for the static transmission of a torque between two machine components coaxially disposed in one another, e.g. a shaft and a hub, in which the tooth surfaces are straight and are designed with a very large pressure angle and with large tip and root fillet radii. The pressure angle of one component deviating slightly from that of the other component by half the torsion angle so as to overcome backlash. As a result, under load, the tooth surfaces abut over their entire surface. Also, the hubs can be produced with a smaller blanking indentation, in particular in the case of discs made of sheet metal, which increases the bearing capacity, and furthermore this can be done even more precisely, which results in an increase in centering precision and less noise generation during operation.

  • Patent number: 4351167
Abstract: The disclosure concerns an elastic coupling of disc construction. The coupling has a central disc which is positioned within an inner chamber that is defined by two side discs, and the side discs are joined together at their peripheries. The discs are attached at a hub at their axes. The side discs are of greater circumference than the central disc. A projection extending in from the side discs toward the central disc has circumferentially opposite abutment surface sides. In the central disc, a recess is defined into which the aforesaid projection extends. The recess has opposed abutment surface sidewalls, and each of these abutment surface sidewalls is opposed to a respective abutment surface side on the projection.

  • Patent number: 4169651
Abstract: A connector including a rotation symmetric contact pin mountably received within a bore in a housing. The housing includes a stop chamber adapted to lockingly engage resilient stop springs tangentially attached to the contact pin when the pin is inserted into the bore such that the resilient stop springs extend from the contact pin into the stop chamber. Rotation of the contact pin retracts the stop springs into openings in the contact pin and permits withdrawal of the contact pin from the bore.
