  • Patent number: 5970251
Abstract: A process for optimizing data and/or program parts for programmed controllers that can be used, e.g., in motor vehicle controllers. In this process, the controller is connected to an external application device via an interface. Changes in the data and/or program parts to be optimized are entered with the help of the application device. This process is characterized in that, at the beginning of the optimizing process, the data and/or program parts are loaded into the data and/or program read-write memory (e.g., RAM) of the controller. In addition, the process is characterized in that specific changes are made in the control program and/or in the memory and/or register locations of the controller to cause the microprocessor of the controller to access the corresponding data and/or program parts in the data and/or program read-write memory (e.g., RAM) instead of accessing the data and/or program parts in the data and/or program read-only memory (e.g., flash EPROM).

  • Patent number: 5960627
Abstract: A method and a device for controlling an internal combustion engine, in which first device meters fuel to the internal combustion engine that is burned in the internal combustion engine. Second device performs an exhaust gas aftertreatment. A post-injection takes place, in the case of which, following the combustion, the first device meters fuel which reacts in the second device.

  • Patent number: 5936827
Abstract: A device for controlling at least one electromagnetic load, which includes a first switching device arranged between a first terminal of a supply voltage and a first terminal of at least one load, and a second switching device arranged between a first terminal of an assigned load and the second terminal of the supply voltage. The energy released during the transition from a first higher current (IH) to a second lower current (IH) is stored in a storage device.

  • Patent number: 5901156
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the operation of a data processing system for motor vehicles including at least two computers and a line connecting the computers for the transmission of messages. This line permits a fast and reliable data transmission between the computers installed in the motor vehicle, taking into account the specific requirements of a controller-coupling in the motor vehicle. An embodiment is provided which describes in detail the interface between the individual computers and the line linking the computers, and with the aid of which a controller-coupling is realized in the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5640511
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of handling erroneous messages in a data processing arrangement. The data processing arrangement can be applied to a motor vehicle and includes at least two stations such as a motor control computer, a transmission control computer, and/or a brake control computer. A data line connects the two stations for transmitting messages. The method is performed by causing the station which detected the erroneous message to transmit an error report in response to the erroneous message; and, causing the error report to include a sequence of states or bits which cannot be confused with any sequence of dominant states or bits during error-free data transmission.

  • Patent number: 5146892
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for the open-loop and/or closed-loop control of the engine power of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle is suggested. For checking a safety function, the arrangement intervenes in the fuel metering in the sense of reducing engine speed when an operating condition critical to safety is present. This safety function is triggered in the overrun operation of the internal combustion engine independently of the safety condition and the correct performance is checked. The safety function is detected as being defective when a unlimited metering of fuel takes place in this operating condition when the safety function is triggered.

  • Patent number: 5094207
Abstract: An apparatus 14 for adapting the characteristic of an idling adjuster has a release means 15 which allows adaptation only when the sign of a speed control deviation .DELTA.n corresponds to the sign of an air-quantity control deviation .DELTA.Q.This guarantees that the adaptation cannot counteract the speed control either as a result of still insufficient adaptation or by shunt signals from the air-quantity meter 11.

  • Patent number: 5060611
Abstract: A process and a device for air proportioning during idling or overrun mode of operation in an internal-combustion engine are provided. During idling, the internal-combustion engine is regulated to a nominal speed by means of a PI controller (203, 204) and a preliminary air rate control value is determined as a function of temperature, gear position and air-conditioning state of the vehicle. At the same time, the actual air mass or air intake rate (60) is measured and the difference value of the actual air intake rate and the preliminary air-rate control value is stored in a store (304). During overrun, the air-mass throughput of the internal-combustion engine is regulated to this stored value. Furthermore, the control receives a series of auxiliary variables which make it easier to carry out the control as a function of the particular operating mode.
