  • Patent number: 6548570
Abstract: A radiation shielding material is manufactured from an elastomer that is blended with a radiation-absorbing filler material. The filler material comprises a powder of a metal with a high atomic member, or compounds thereof. The filler material is represented by more than 80 percent weight and has a grain size distribution in the range of 20 &mgr;m to 120 &mgr;m. The filler material is mixed with a loading material in powdered form. That mixture is kneaded with the elastomer within a mixer while the temperature is maintained below 180° C. The kneaded mixture is cooled and then cut into strips. The strips are passed through a strainer having a mesh width of between 5 &mgr;m and 1000 &mgr;m. Abstract: The tool for a tool holder of hand tools used for chiseling and/or percussion drilling has a chucking shank (9). This chucking shank (9) is provided with two rotary driving grooves (10) which are located diametrically opposite one another and open axially toward the free end of the chucking shank (9). Also, the chucking shank (9) has two diametrically opposite, axially closed locking grooves (11). In order to increase the total working surface decisive for the transmission of torque, two longitudinal grooves (12) are provided which are likewise arranged diametrically opposite one another and open axially toward the free end of the chucking shank (9). The length of these longitudinal grooves (12) exceeds the length of the locking grooves (11). The axes of symmetry (L) of the longitudinal grooves (12) are arranged at an acute angle (a) to the axes of symmetry (V) of the locking grooves (11).

  • Patent number: 4645664
Abstract: A microporous powder form polylactide which can take up a multiple of its own weight of active material and which can be used for the controlled release of that active material. The aforesaid microporous polylactide powder can be prepared by dissolving polylactide under warming in phthalicacid diethylester, preferably at a temperature over 150.degree. C. and then slowly cooling the clear solution. The resulting suspension is then subjected to filtering and any remain phthalicacid diethylester preferably removed by extraction. The microporous powder recovered is especially suitable for applying thereto therapeutically active substances for controlled release therefrom and is particularly suitable for utilization in veterinary and human medicine. The microporous powder in this form can be introduced into the body subcutaneously, intramuscularly and intraperitoneally.

  • Patent number: 4549969
Abstract: Process and apparatus for enriching liquids with oxygen by means of a catalyst and a liquid which gives off oxygen under the effect of that catalyst. The process involves passing the oxygen-yielding liquid through a porous molding, in the pores of which the catalyst is incorporated in known manner, thereby giving off oxygen, the side of the porous molding which gives off a greater quantity of oxygen being in contact with the liquid to be enriched with oxygen. The oxygen-yielding liquid is passed through the porous molding under its own static pressure, or under the effect of the excess pressure built up in the container through the formation of oxygen. Preferred embodiments include use of 0.1 to 5% solution of hydrogen peroxide as the oxygen-yielding liquid; using manganese dioxide, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 or nickel oxide as the catalyst.
