  • Patent number: 6143681
Abstract: A volatile metal halide is sublimed over a zeolite, which is then exposed to water, dried and calcined. A promoter may then be incorporated into the zeolite structure by adding the zeolite to a solution of a rare earth salt resulting in a metal exchanged zeolite such as La-Fe/ZSM-5. Contacting exhaust gas with NO.sub.x over the catalyst results in reduction of the NO.sub.x to N.sub.2. The spent catalyst may be regenerated by heating in an oxygen atmosphere.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 10, 1998
Date of Patent: November 7, 2000
    Assignee: Northwestern University
Inventors: Wolfgang M. H. Sachtler, Haiying Chen
  • Patent number: 5786294
Abstract: Methods for the preparation of new sulfated mesoporous zirconia materials/catalysts with crystalline pore walls of predominantly tetragonal crystal structure, characterized by nitrogen physisorption measurement, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and catalytic tests using n-butane isomerization to iso-butane and alkylation of 1-naphthol with 4-tert-butylstyrene as probe reactions. Sulfate deposition is preferred for the transformation of a mesoporous precursor with amorphous pore walls into a material with crystalline pore walls maintaining the mesoporous characteristics.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 10, 1996
Date of Patent: July 28, 1998
    Assignee: Northwestern University
    Inventors: Wolfgang M. H. Sachtler, Yin-Yan Huang
  • Patent number: 4654317
Abstract: Dispersion stabilized zeolite supported metal catalysts are provided as bimetallic catalyst combinations. The catalyst metal is in a reduced zero valent form while the dispersion stabilizer metal is in an unreduced ionic form. Representative catalysts are prepared from platinum or nickel as the catalyst metal and iron or chromium dispersion stabilizer.
