  • Patent number: 6139305
Abstract: An injection molding apparatus capable of producing injection molded articles from at least two plastic melts, includes an additional mold mounting device between a fixed mold mounting plate and a movable mold mounting plate that is traversed along four essentially horizontal tie rods. The additional mold mounting device is also pivotable around a rotational axis aligned perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tie rods, and carries additional mold halves that cooperate with the mold halves mounted on the mold mounting plates on at least two side surfaces that are aligned with a spacing parallel to each other and relative to the rotational axis. The additional mold mounting device comprises upper and lower support blocks that are arranged at a spacing relative to each other in an essentially vertically aligned plane, with each support block being guided on at least of the two tie rods. A friction or pivot bearing is provided for vertically aligned pivots of a prismatic mold core support.

  • Patent number: 5443378
Abstract: A standard injection molding machine is combined with an auxiliary plasticizing unit having a hot runner manifold that can be alternately connected with or disconnected from the main injection unit of the molding machine to perform sandwich molding. The injection unit retracts from the mold to connect with a hot runner and receive skin material from a non-reciprocating screw extruder directly into the barrel of the injection unit. The injection unit then disconnects from the hot runner and moves back into position for injection into the mold. Simultaneously with this movement, the injection unit plasticizes sufficient core material to complete the stacked arrangement of skin and core material necessary for sandwich molding. In an alternate embodiment, the sandwich molding apparatus includes an accumulator with a suitable valve and connections to the other components to supply a final shot of skin material into the mold, as well as provide the pack and hold functions of the injection cycle.

  • Patent number: 4994220
Abstract: A process and apparatus for injection molding of injection molded parts of plasticized material, in particular plasticized liquid crystal polymers, in which the plasticized material is injected into the mold cavity of a closed injection mold having at least two spaced apart infeed gates, separate plastification and injection devices being associated with each of the gates. The plasticized material may be further injected into the mold cavity to compensate for any shrinkage during cooling of the molded material. Injection is carried out by at least one of the devices which causes the material to flow into the cavity via one of the gates associated therewith for filling the cavity and causing the material to partially flow from the cavity via the other of the gates in the direction of the other of the devices associated therewith.

  • Patent number: 4734023
Abstract: An injection molding machine for use with at least two melting and injector units includes a fixed die platen, a movable die platen, and fixed spars on which said movable die platen moved. The die platens mount half-mold parts of injection molds while the other half-mold parts are positioned on a prismatic support base which can be rotated around its axis between these half-mold parts and which is movable in the direction of the fixed spars. The movable die platen mounts movable spars along which the prismatic support base is guided in the area between the two die platens. On the rear face of the movable die platen which faces away from the support base is positioned at least one drive for the two movable spars, and the movable die platen includes at least one runner for plasticized material injected therein from a melting and injector unit.
