  • Patent number: 5163742
Abstract: A method utilizes components of an existing anti-lock brake system (ABS) in order thereby to achieve an automatically self-optimizing inter-axle brake-pressure distribution acting far below the wheel lock limit. For this purpose, the brake pressure and, hence, the brake-force distribution are regulated axle-specifically far below the wheel lock limit too. An immediate dynamic intervention is, on one hand, effected in the case of sufficiently large wheel-speed differences between the axles. On the other hand, an adaptive predetermination of correct brake-force distributions is made the basis for each current regulating intervention. Even before the occurrence of large speed differences, the brake-force distribution expedient in each case for these is here predictively determined, stored, and, if required, correspondingly adapted to current requirements, i.e. corrected, in the course of subsequent dynamic braking demands.

  • Patent number: 4872962
Abstract: The invention relates to a surface printing press with a printed image carrier having an image thereon corresponding to the matter to be printed on paper or the like. The image on the printed image carrier is in the form of hydrophilic and hydrophobic areas. In order to be able to modify the extents and positions of these areas on the press directly and thus reduce press idle times the printed image carrier is made of a material such as polymer whose said areas may be changed over dotwise between the said hydrophilic and hydrophobic conditions by electrical effects taking place in an electrochemical process with one electrode being formed by the plate cylinder and the counter-electrode being formed by a roller bearinged for rotation in an electrolyte container. One of the two electrodes is in the form of matrix and is operated so as to produce a pattern of dots.

  • Patent number: 4714467
Abstract: In a method of producing implants of bone replacement material from resin reinforced with carbon fiber at least the fibers in the parts of the surface which are to come into contact with the bone tissue are exposed by mechanical treatment. This provides for an improved unification of the bone with the implant. The fibers at the surface may be fibers of a fabric which is wrapped around a basic member shaped to conform to the desired implant.

  • Patent number: 4050997
Abstract: A fiber-reinforced composite material is produced by a method wherein chemical groups are generated on the surfaces of electrically conductive fibers to be used as reinforcing fibers by electrochemical activation in an electrically conductive bath or liquid, the so-activated fibers are treated with a chemical compound in a solvent containing an element capable of combining with the fibers, especially a metal, the compound is decomposed in the solvent to liberate the element and the element is combined with the activated surfaces of said fibers. The activating current for the electrochemical activation is preferably applied to the fibers without mechanical contact by way of the electrically conductive liquid.
