  • Patent number: 8146945
Abstract: A motor vehicle steering column includes a bracket fixed to the vehicle and a steering column tube. The steering column tube may be adjusted in inclination relative to the bracket fixed to the vehicle via an adjusting device. The adjusting device includes a lever which is mounted pivotably on the bracket and may be deflected about a pivot axis by a driving device. The motor vehicle steering column may permit a maximum inclination setting irrespective of the available construction space. A deflecting clamp which is connected pivotably to the steering column tube is coupled to an output end of the lever.

  • Publication number: 20070164549
Abstract: A steering column arrangement has a console arranged fixedly with respect to the vehicle and a steering column which has a steering column tube and a steering spindle mounted rotatably in the latter. The steering column is designed to be variable in its inclination and length, and a clamp for securing the steering column is provided. In order to increase the safety of the vehicle occupants, while at the same time maintaining known comfort functions, and to ensure a reliable use of the steering column arrangement, it is proposed to connect the steering column to the console by the clamp via a console slide which is mounted displaceably on the console. Furthermore, an actuation element operatively connected to the clamp is provided for releasing and locking the clamp, and the operative connection is releasable.

  • Patent number: 6811185
Abstract: A steering column for a motor vehicle has a steering shaft rotatably mounted in a tubular jacket. The tubular jacket is secured on two rails extending substantially in an axial direction and fixed on the bodywork. The tubular jacket is guided between the rails in the event of an axial displacement in case of a crash. At least one rail is assigned at least one deformation element which is secured at least at one end on the rail and is plastically deformable, with absorption of energy, in the event of an axial displacement of the tubular jacket in a manner such that it is deformed by rolling friction via deflection structure fixedly disposed on the tubular jacket.

  • Patent number: 6695349
Abstract: A positional adjustment apparatus is provided for a steering column of a motor vehicle. A tubular jacket is fixed on two rails disposed substantially opposite one another, the rails extending in an axial direction of the tubular jacket and having slots extending in the axial direction for longitudinal adjustment of the steering column. Clamping bolts are provided that are guided through the slots in the rails and extend substantially in a radial direction away from the tubular jacket. At least one clamping bolt passes through a rail for vertical adjustment. Longitudinal and vertical adjustments are secured and released by means of an operating lever. The securing and releasing of the longitudinal and vertical adjustments takes place via a cam disc actuatable by the operating lever.

  • Patent number: 6273468
Abstract: A steering system has a steering wheel and steered vehicle wheels which are normally connected only controlwise by a control system, with the steering wheel actuating a steering angle setpoint generator and with the steered vehicle wheels adjusting a steering angle actual value generator so that the control system can actuate a motorized steering control assembly in accordance with a setpoint-actual value comparison of the steering angle during control of the steered vehicle wheels by steering. Axial displaceability of the steering wheel is provided so that stable mounting prevents vibrations of the steering wheel and the feedback effects on the steering angle setpoint generator originating therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5269562
Abstract: An axially adjustable steering column for vehicles is disclosed which has an axially displaceable steering shaft which is surrounded by two steering column jacket parts which can be pushed together in a telescopic fashion. The jacket parts can be attached to one another by way of a clamp connection. The jacket parts are axially movable with respect to one another when the clamp connection is loosened with the displacement of the steering shaft. The clamp connection has at least one threaded pin which is radially movable with respect to the longitudinal axis of the steering column jacket parts and is received on the outer steering column jacket part in a threaded section and after its screwing-in movement presses against the internal steering column jacket part. A spring-loaded control cable is provided which acts in a rotating fashion on the threaded pin.

  • Patent number: 4502746
Abstract: An electrically conducting connector for mutually rotatable components such as, for example, components of steering assemblies of a motor vehicle wherein, in order to obtain a high operating realiability and a transmission of current from the rotatable parts to fixed parts, in lieu of conventional slip ring arrangements, spiral springs are provided which are connected, in an electrically conducting manner to the rotatable component and fixed component of the steering assembly. In order to ensure an exact central positioning during an installation of the spiral springs, end regions of each of the spiral springs rest slidably, under tension, against associated contact rings thereby resulting in an automatic centering of the spiral springs when the steering assembly is operated for the first time.
