  • Patent number: 6099003
Abstract: A steering knuckle of aluminum or an aluminum alloy for a wheel suspension on a front axle of a motor vehicle, designed as a one-piece forging which has a wheel-bearing socket (2), that is wider than it is thick, with a through hole (3) designed to accept a screw-in bearing flange. The steering knuckle has a radius arm connection bracket (20) and a carrier arm connection bracket (21), offset with respect to each other, formed on an end surface of the wheel-bearing socket (2). A web-shaped brake caliper connecting section (25) is formed on a first side of the wheel-bearing socket (2). A neck (7), which is designed as a solid section with an arc-shaped contour in the longitudinal direction, extends from the wheel-bearing socket (2). A free end surface (11) of the neck is provided with connection structures (13, 13') for transverse links, and a trackrod arm (15) projecting to the first side.

  • Patent number: 6059314
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a composite front suspension control arm shaft for motor vehicles includes connecting two tubular longitudinal control arms to a transverse sectional member, wherein a connection portion adapted to the cross-sectional configuration of the ends of the transverse sectional member is produced at each longitudinal control arm, and wherein the ends of the transverse sectional member are positioned in an assembly position relative to the connection portions and are secured by welding thereto.

  • Patent number: 5924316
Abstract: A method of manufacturing pipes having sections with different wall thicknesses from an initially plane sheet metal in which a starting sheet metal is subjected to a rolling deformation so as to intentionally produce areas of different wall thicknesses in rolling direction. Subsequently, the rolled sheet metal is cut to size as required. The intermediate product obtained in this manner is then shaped into a pipe and the abutting edges are then joined together.

  • Patent number: 5836189
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a pipe having sections with different cross-sectional configurations includes initially providing a sheet bar which has a rectangular base portion and at least one formation section integrally connected to the base portion. In the next step, the sheet bar is shaped into a hollow-cylindrical body. In this step, the base portion is deformed into a tubular shape and the formation section is deformed into a spiral shape. Subsequently, the final shaping of the pipe is carried out which may constitute widening of the formation section by a block which acts from the inside. In a subsequent joining procedure, abutting edges are connected.

  • Patent number: 5189790
Abstract: A double walled pipe elbow with an intermediate space between an inner pipe and an outer pipe is formed by joining the ends of a straight inner pipe and a straight outer pipe. The two pipes are bent into a desired shape and then placed in a shaping recess in a shaping tool. Seal plugs are placed at the opposite ends of the pipe elbow. In the sealed condition, a pressurized medium is supplied through at least one end seal plug into the inner pipe and between the inner and the outer pipe for expanding the outer pipe into surface contact with the shaping recess.

  • Patent number: 4331015
Abstract: A tube bending machine comprises a tube bending mechanism per se for bending a front portion of a tube inserted therein and fluid operated units for moving a mandrel in axial direction into the tube to be bent and for withdrawing the mandrel through a rear end of the tube after bending. A tube magazine is located to one side of the bending mechanism and a tube depositing station for receiving the bent tube is located at the other side thereof.

  • Patent number: 4331016
Abstract: A tube bending apparatus comprises an elongated mandrel having a length at least three times the length of a tube to be bent in the apparatus. A first mandrel holder is arranged at the rear end of the mandrel and a second mandrel holder is forwardly spaced from said first by a distance slightly greater than the length of a tube.

  • Patent number: 4301959
Abstract: A method for series production of an outer column for a safety steering column for motor vehicles in which a first tubular blank is stepwise moved to a plurality of working stations in which the blank is deformed respectively punched to form a substantially smooth-walled protecting tube of the outer column. A second tubular blank is simultaneously moved to a working station in which it is transformed into a corrugated tube and subsequently the two tubes are fed against each other so that end portions of the tube overlap and the overlapping tubes are then welded together in a main welding station. Thereafter at least one pressed metal part is welded to one of the tubes at an auxiliary welding station. At least one control station is coordinated with at least one working station for the first tubular blank and at least one additional control station is coordinated with at least one of the welding stations for checking the work performed by the at least one working and the at least one welding station.
