  • Patent number: 6162280
Abstract: The technical problem of the invention is to create a process where the second layer is of higher sintering quality and improved waste gas values are achieved. The process according to the invention for the thermal transformation of materials containing organic substances in a two-layer sintering process, charges the second layer (8) containing the organic substances at a maximum layer thickness of 20% of the first layer after ignition of the first layer (1) and thermally treats the second layer when the combustion zone of the first layer ensures the combustion of the organic substances coming from the second layer and entering the combustion zone of the first layer, following the pressure difference, is least 70%. The area above the combustion zone of the first layer still must have a temperature preventing the organic substances coming from the second layer and entering the first layer from condensing.

  • Patent number: 4956849
Abstract: For use in the graphiting of carbon bodies, a graphiting furnace is proposed, which contains inert gas and in which carbon bodies forced together to form a train are fed in feeding steps. The train is axially gripped to set up therein an axial compressive stress which is sufficient to render the train self-supporting. That axial compressive stress is also maintained while a graphited carbon body is removed from the train and a carbon body to be graphited is added to the train between consecutive feeding steps.

  • Patent number: 4697274
Abstract: An electric melting furnace arrangement for the continuous melting of spinnable mineral fine-particle or granular materials has a refractorily lined furnace vessel, a plurality of electrodes arranged on a partial circle extending into the furnace vessel from above, conveying devices for the materials to be melted designed as dosing pipes arranged close to the partial circle formed by the electrodes and each provided between two electrodes and a tapping device penetrating a side wall of the furnace vessel. Transporting devices are provided for admitting the dosing pipes, and when the dosing pipes are completely full, the further conveying of the materials to be melted is interruptable.

  • Patent number: 4678168
Abstract: A tilting channel for guiding molten material includes a trough-shaped channel body provided with outlets at opposite ends thereof and a spot of impact for the jet of molten material between said outlets. The channel body is pivotable by means of a pivot drive about a tilting axle from a normal operation position into an emergency operation position, and vice versa. The channel body is formed by two channel parts enclosing an angle O<.phi.<180.degree., and the bottom of the first channel part is arranged at a lower level relative to the bottom of the second channel part. The spot of impact of the jet is located on the first channel part close to where the latter enters into the second channel part, and the vertical middle plane of the first channel part lies in the plane formed by the jet, when the first channel part is in its downwardly inclined normal operating position.

  • Patent number: 4617672
Abstract: Electric furnace arrangement including a furnace vessel with liftable and lowerable lid penetrated by at least one electrode. The electrode is fastened to a liftable and lowerable supporting construction by first clamping devices. For lifting the lid, a further clamping device for the electrode is provided on the lid, at least one coupling element is provided on the supporting construction and at least one counter-coupling element is arranged on the lid, which can be brought into and out of engagement with the coupling element. A connecting element can be provided between coupling element and supporting construction.
