  • Patent number: 6656735
Abstract: Transcription factor responsive elements, target genes, and co-factors of a transcription factor, either individually or in combination, are identified by integrating into the genome of a eukaryotic cell a gene trap vector that includes a reporter gene, a polyadenylation site, and a selectable marker gene, selecting the cells in which the gene trap vector is successfully integrated and contacting those cells with the transcription factor, then identifying and cultivating those cells having a gene into which the gene trap vector has been integrated and in which the reporter gene activity has been altered by interaction between the transcription factor and a transcription factor responsive element of that gene, and identifying the transcription factor responsive element, target gene, or cofactor that interacts with the transcription factor.

  • Patent number: 5832593
Abstract: A splice head for use with a modular wire connector, to work with and hold the wires while installing them in the connector, particularly for wires of differing diameters. The splice head includes a coil spring loosely arranged on a bar and movable axially thereon. By selecting an appropriate location for the starting point on the spring and selection of the spring position on the bar, different sized wires can be fixed by the coils of the spring. The bar may be circular in cross-section to allow the spring to slide easily forward and backward. This construction allows simpler placement of the wires since the coil spring does not need to to replaced for wires of different sizes, and there is no requirement that the splicing operation begin at one particular end of the coil since neither end is fixed.

  • Patent number: 5806168
Abstract: A tool (10) for the termination of insulated wires in electrical connectors having different heights, which tool has a mechanism affording adjustment of the spacing between a pressing body (50), accommodated by a splice head, and a retaining body for the connector. The adjustment in height between the bodies is afforded by step adjustment and by an intermediate member (56, 58) affording smaller pitches, and the tool has an attachment mechanism for releasably attaching the tool to the retaining body.

  • Patent number: 5212708
Abstract: In an axial flow gas laser, in particular a high-power CO.sub.2 laser with DC excitation, at least one discharge tube (1) of dielectric material, in particular quartz glass, is provided. First and second connection bodies (E1, E2) are sealingly connected to the discharge tube (1) or to connection necks branching off from it, in each case in the vicinity of an electrical and laser gas connection point, forming a connection chamber (K1, K2), and are connected to laser gas inlet lines (4) or outlet lines (9). The first connection body (E1) is connected to the anode potential and the second connection body (E2) to the cathode potential of a direct voltage source. The first and second connection bodies (E1, E2) are disposed with tubular axial spacing from one another, so that the discharge tube (1), with its gas chamber, forms a discharge path between the anode and cathode potentials.

  • Patent number: 4175504
Abstract: The invention provides an air induction system or manifold for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, which is arranged in two parts, the first having portions of the induction passages for each cylinder formed therein, and the second attached to the first to form a housing therewith in communication with each of the induction passages, at least the first part being arranged so that it may be pressure die cast in manufacture.
