  • Patent number: 11371420
Abstract: A cooling arrangement for cooling charge air of a supercharged internal combustion engine. In a charge-air line that leads to the internal combustion engine, there are provided a compressor arrangement, which has at least one compressor stage, and an expansion arrangement, which has at least one expansion stage for lowering the pressure level and thus for cooling the charge air. A cooling device is provided between the compressor arrangement and the expansion arrangement. The at least one compressor stage and the at least one expansion stage are connected in series and are respectively connected in terms of drive to an electric motor. The compressor arrangement has at least two compressor stages connected in parallel.

  • Publication number: 20110303167
Abstract: An internal combustion engine, having at least two cylinder banks, each cylinder bank having two outer high pressure cylinders and a central low pressure cylinder, reciprocating pistons of the cylinders being coupled via connecting rods to crankpin journals of a crankshaft, valves of the cylinders to be actuated via camshafts which can be driven from the crankshaft, crankpin journals on which the connecting rods of the high pressure cylinders act, lying in a common plane, crankpin journals on which the connecting rods of the low pressure cylinders act, being offset with respect to said plane, and the crankpin journal for the connecting rod of the low pressure cylinder of a first cylinder bank being offset with respect to the crankpin journal for the connecting rod of the low pressure cylinder of a second cylinder bank.

  • Publication number: 20110303202
Abstract: An internal combustion engine, having at least one cylinder bank, the or each cylinder bank having two outer high pressure cylinders and a central low pressure cylinder, reciprocating pistons of the cylinders being coupled via connecting rods to a crankshaft, the valves of the cylinders being actuated via camshafts which can be driven from the crankshaft, crossflow channels for exhaust gas formed in the region of the or each cylinder bank between outlet valves of the high pressure cylinders and inlet valves of the respective low pressure cylinder, and each crossflow channel and the respective high pressure cylinder of the or each cylinder bank being designed in such a way that a dimensional ratio of a volume of the crossflow channel in cm3 to the product of a swept volume of the respective high pressure cylinder in cm3 and a charging pressure in bar is between 0.05 and 0.5.

  • Patent number: 7793633
Abstract: A switching resonance intake system is provided an internal combustion engine with a first and a second cylinder bank. The cylinder banks are each coordinated with a resonance container with a group of swing pipes leading to the cylinders, and the resonance containers are joined together by resonance pipes provided with switching valves. In the intake system, the swing pipes coordinated with the one cylinder bank are connected to the resonance container adjacent to the other cylinder bank. The intake system is intended for use in an internal combustion engine with cylinder banks having a V-layout.
