Abstract: A process for improving gravure and offset printability of coated and uncoated printing papers by increasing filler share in the paper on the top and bottom sides or in the outer layers of the paper web by using a retention agent, and providing the outerlayers of the fiber bearing liquid forming the paper web with additional retention agent before or during sheet formation on or between the wires of the paper making machine.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for manufacturing paper web containing a CF layer for pressure sensitive recording paper. In order to ensure full sizing, the paper web is subjected to intermass sizing and the coating ink containing color acceptors constituted of color-reactive, mineral pigments is applied with a coating device in which the paper web is guided between two transfer rollers separated by a gap or set at minimal pressure. One of the transfer rollers applies volumetrically pre-dosed coating ink by means of a rotary and driven surface-profiled doctor bar, forming the CF layer on one side of the paper web, and the other transfer roller at the same time applies a volumetrically pre-dosed aqueous solution on the other side of the paper web, also by means of a rotary driven surface-profiled doctor bar. The amount of color-reactive pigment in the dried CF-layer comprises between 3.5 and 5 g/m.sup.2.

Abstract: A roller for the pressure treatment of webs, especially a roller such as a press or calender roller for the treatment of paper, cardboard and pulp webs in machines of the paper industry, which include a roller shell, roller flange and a roller shaft, one or more elastic, axial or coaxial clamps and elastic or yielding centering structures. The roller shell includes individual rings of sintered ceramic disposed side by side, the rings are clamped positively together by the one or more elastic, axial or coaxial clamps and the rings are aligned concentrically on the roller shaft by means of the elastic or yielding centering structures.
