  • Patent number: 11542898
Abstract: A method is provided for operating an internal combustion engine, which comprises at least one combustion unit, a fresh gas tract for supplying fresh gas to the combustion unit, and a fuel tank system. A fresh gas compressor as well as a differential pressure valve are integrated into the fresh gas tract. The first purge gas line opens into a first section of the fresh gas tract, which is situated downstream from the differential pressure valve as well as upstream from the fresh gas compressor, while the second purge gas line opens into a second section of the fresh gas tract situated downstream from the fresh gas compressor. The differential pressure valve is at least partially closed at least temporarily during an intake mode of the internal combustion engine with fuel vapor filter purging, and purge gas is introduced into the fresh gas tract via the first purge gas line.

  • Patent number: 9470159
Abstract: A method for determining the proportion of gaseous working medium in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine includes opening an injector so as to feed fuel directly into the cylinder. The injector is connected to a fuel line in which a pressure sensor is arranged. The pressure in the fuel line is measured when the injector is open. The proportion of gaseous working medium in the cylinder is determined in conjunction with an association between the measured pressure in the fuel line when the injector is open and the proportion of gaseous working medium in the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 9212617
Abstract: A method for recognizing irregular combustion in an internal combustion engine includes supplying fuel directly to a combustion chamber of a cylinder of the internal combustion engine using an injector. The injector is connected to a fuel supply line that includes a pressure sensor configured to measure pressure in the fuel supply line. The pressure in the fuel supply line is measured during the supply of fuel into the combustion chamber. It is then ascertaining whether irregular combustion is occurring based on the measured pressure in the fuel supply line.

  • Patent number: 9080546
Abstract: A method is provided for equalizing the cylinders of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine is configured as a reciprocating engine having direct injection and spark ignition. A fuel mass is injected in a cylinder-specific manner, and a cylinder-specific air mass and a cylinder-specific ignition time are each adjustable. An injection amount is equalized, then a charge is equalized and then a mean combustion pressure is equalized.

  • Patent number: 8555862
Abstract: A system provides reliable tank ventilation, particularly in the case of supercharged internal combustion engines, while also assuring efficient operation of the internal combustion engine. A tank is connected with an adsorption filter by way of a first tank ventilation line. The adsorption filter is connected with the intake line of the internal combustion engine by way of a second tank ventilation line. A drive apparatus includes a turbine wheel and a pump wheel coupled with one another. The pump wheel is disposed in the second tank ventilation line. The turbine wheel is disposed in a bridging line branching off from the intake line and flowing into the intake line. The bridging line branches off from the intake line downstream from a compressor disposed in the intake line.

  • Patent number: 7805237
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine having a combustion method with homogeneous auto ignition. A driver's demand, predetermined by the gas pedal, is converted into a desired torque to be given off by the engine. A reference charge value for the air charge is determined by a working-point-dependent lambda value (?opt) that can be predetermined. Based on this, a throttle valve position is set. Parallel to this, a desired torque is calculated for the fuel path with a reference lambda value, and an actual charge is calculated to yield a fuel amount to be injected. The reference lambda value results from an optimal lambda value for the mode of operation of homogeneous compression ignition, as long as the lambda value is within the rich and lean limits, respectively, of the combustion method of homogeneous compression ignition. The fuel mass is varied within the rich and lean limits to compensate dynamic processes.

Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine having a combustion method with homogeneous auto ignition. A driver's demand, predetermined by the gas pedal, is converted into a desired torque to be given off by the engine. A reference filling value for the air filling is determined by a working-point-dependent lambda value (?opt) that can be predetermined. Based on this, a throttle valve position is set. Parallel to this, a desired torque is calculated for the fuel path with a reference lambda value, and an actual filling is calculated to yield a fuel amount to be injected.
