Abstract: A bumper device for a motor vehicle is described. A cross member assembly includes a cross member running transverse to a traveling direction and a side element extending from an end of the cross member. A side member assembly has a first end configured to be fixed to a vehicle structure and a second end fixed to the cross member. A support member extends from the side member assembly towards an end of the side element opposite the cross member. The support member is configured to absorb and transfer an oblique load acting on the side element to the side member assembly, and to defect without substantial resistance to the longitudinal load acting on the cross member in the traveling direction.

Abstract: A cross member of a motor vehicle body is provided. The cross member is designed for forming a load-transmitting connection between two side members of the body and can be structurally connected to these. The cross member includes at least one floor portion that is depressed relative to a marginal rim, which together with at least one side wall adjoining thereon forms at least one stowage space for receiving items.
