  • Publication number: 20120262027
Abstract: In one aspect, the present invention provides nanosized systems for generating electrical energy based on the use of a chemically reactive composition to generate a thermoelectric wave. For example, the system can include at least one nanostructure (e.g., a carbon nanotube) extending along an axial direction between a proximal end and a distal end. A chemically reactive composition is dispersed along at least a portion of the nanostructure, e.g., along its axial direction, so as to provide thermal coupling with the nanostructure. The chemical composition can undergo an exothermic chemical reaction to generate heat. The system can further include an ignition mechanism adapted to activate the chemical composition so as to generate a thermal wave that propagates along the axial direction of the nanostructure, where the thermal wave is accompanied by an electrical energy wave propagating along the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 5599850
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing pre-expanded articles of a polyolefin resin wherein a blowing agent is incorporated into the polyolefin resin in an amount of 45 to 90 parts by volume with respect to 100 parts by volume of the resin and the pre-expansion is carried out at a temperature in the range of from Tm -35.degree. C. to Tm -20.degree. C., or a second external pressured gas which facilitate the impregnation efficiency of the blowing agent is further introduced in an amount of expressing an additional pressure more than 10 kg/cm.sup.2 with the blowing agent. Also, the present invention relates to pre-expanded articles of a polyolefin resin produced by the above process.

  • Patent number: 5507189
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for evaluating the plane strain stretch formability for thin steel sheets used in automotive bodies to provide easy evaluation of the plane strain stretch formability. The apparatus includes: a lower die and an upper die with a lock bead installed thereon. A rectangularly shaped test specimen is inserted between the upper and lower dies and, and is clamped by means of the lock bead along the circumferential edge of the test specimen, so that the material of the test specimen can be moved into the upper die. A punch is elevated to apply a stretch forming force on the test specimen, and then, the plane strain stretch formability is evaluated based on the fracture limit punch height at the instant of the fracture. The punch has a saddle-like, semi-cylindrical shape.
