Abstract: A method of compensating an image to be display on a display panel is disclosed. In one aspect, the method includes receiving a first input image and adjusting a contrast sensitivity of the first input image. The method also includes calculating a first derivative of luminance of a pixel included in the adjusted image, calculating a second derivative of the luminance of the pixel, and accumulating the first and second derivatives. The method further includes determining a burn-in causing boundary based at least in part on the accumulated first and second derivatives, receiving a second input image, and comparing the burn-in causing boundary to a boundary of the second input image to determine whether to apply burn-in compensation. The method finally includes compensating a portion of the second input image corresponding to the burn-in causing boundary based at least in part on an unsharpening filter.

  • Patent number: 8963443
Abstract: A light source apparatus includes a plurality of light source parts, a power supply part, a current selection part and a current control part. The plurality of the light source parts are connected in parallel and the power supply part provides power to a first terminal of each of the light source parts. The current selection part selects the current level of one of the light source parts as a reference current level. The current control part adjusts the levels of the currents flowing through the light source parts to be substantially equal to the reference current level. Selection of the light source part that provides the reference current level is dynamically changed.

  • Patent number: 8605123
Abstract: A backlight assembly outputs scan signals having a scanning frequency synchronized with a frame frequency to sequentially drive light emitting blocks providing a light to a display panel. A dimming step of each light emitting block corresponds to one of a plurality of dimming steps in response to local dimming data. A dimming clock having a value obtained by dividing a value obtained by multiplying the scanning frequency and the number is dimming steps by a duty ratio of each scan signal is generated. The dimming step of each light emitting block is counted using the dimming clock, and the counted values are combined with the scan signals to generate dimming signals having a dimming duty ratio corresponding to the dimming step of the light emitting blocks.

  • Patent number: 8531132
Abstract: A backlight unit includes a driving circuit, a plurality of light source strings, and an error detector. The driving circuit outputs a driving voltage. Each of the light source strings includes a plurality of light sources and receives the driving voltage through input terminals of the light source strings to generate a light. The error detector is connected to output terminals of the light source strings and senses voltages between the input terminals and the output terminals of the light source strings to detect an error in the light sources using a first voltage and a second voltage. The first voltage is a voltage difference between a maximum and a minimum of the sensed voltages and the second voltage is obtained by dividing one sensed voltage of the sensed voltages by a number of the light sources of a light source string from which the one sensed voltage is sensed.
