Abstract: An energy storage system and method of driving the same are disclosed. In one aspect, the energy storage system comprises a battery system, a direct current (DC) contactor, first and second power supply units, and a first switch. The battery system includes at least one battery rack and at least one rack battery management system (BMS). The DC contactor is located between the battery system and a power conversion system. The first power supply unit is configured to be electrically connected to the DC contactor. The second power supply unit electrically connected to the rack BMS. The first switch is electrically connected to the rack BMS, wherein the rack BMS is configured to electrically disconnect the DC contactor from the first power supply unit when the first switch is turned on.

Abstract: A protection circuit board resulting in a compact battery pack having a higher capacity than a conventional battery pack of the same size, a battery pack including the protection circuit board and a method of fabricating the protection circuit board includes: a first lead terminal disposed on a first side of the protection circuit board; and a first aperture for exposing the first lead terminal to a second side of the protection circuit board. The battery pack also includes: a bare cell including an electrode terminal; a second lead terminal arranged over the electrode terminal; and a protection circuit board electrically connected to the second lead terminal and the bare cell, and having an aperture for exposing the second lead terminal arranged the first side of the protection circuit board to the second side of the protection circuit board.

Abstract: A secondary battery having a protecting circuit module (PCM) and a secondary protection device. The battery includes a metal tab of the PCM and a metal tab of the secondary protection device that are connected to each other on the top of the PCM. One or more of the tabs are bent to bring the tabs in closer proximity to facilitate welding therebetween.

The battery protection circuit includes a first current path that includes a charge control switch and a discharge control switch, and a second current path in parallel to the first current path and has an electric resistance less than that of the first current path.
