  • Publication number: 20030053480
Abstract: A method for transmitting data in a centralized data communications system having an access point and a plurality of stations using a carrier sense multiplexing access (CSMA) method using a backoff number control preferably includes (a) receiving a multi-poll message containing backoff numbers to be assigned to each station by the access point; (b) setting the backoff numbers of the multi-poll message to the backoff numbers of the stations; and (c) counting down the set backoff numbers and transmitting data. Each station that desires polling registers a station ID and a polling cycle, sets a backoff number contained in a multi-poll message, counts the backoff number, and if the backoff number becomes zero, transmits data such that contention between stations is prevented.

  • Publication number: 20030035390
Abstract: An automated system and method of establishing a local mobility domain (LMD) and a local mobility agent (LMA) on a mobile terminal node (MN) using Internet Protocol version (IPv6) preferably includes: establishing within the MN a newly contacted access router (AR) as the LMA and then receiving from the LMA and storing a list of neighboring ARs, which comprise the LMD. Each AR contains a stored list of neighboring ARs that are within a predetermined range of the AR, which is dynamically set by a network manager. The MN registers a retrieved local and regional address with both the LMA and a home agent (HA.) When the MN moves to a new AR, the stored list of the new AR is checked for the present LMA. The LMA is only changed to the new AR and re-registered with the HA if the new AR is in a different LMD.

  • Publication number: 20020131373
Abstract: An apparatus and method for analyzing the performance of an ATM switch, and an ATM switching system employing the same. The apparatus includes a traffic detecting portion for detecting traffic of constant bit rate connection type data and available bit rate connection type data input to the ATM switch installed in a communication network for processing a data circuit switching, and a performance analyzing portion for calculating a performance of processing the constant bit rate connection type data and the available bit rate connection type data according to information related to the detected traffic of the constant bit rate connection type data and the available bit rate connection type data. According to the apparatus and method, and an ATM switching system employing the same, performance of the ATM switch can be analyzed and the analyzed result can be used in designing the ATM switch.

  • Publication number: 20020022495
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for performing a protocol that optimizes a transmission power in a network. The apparatus and the method perform a protocol that optimizes the transmission power in the network for point-to-multipoint communication (1:N). The apparatus includes a communication unit for sending and receiving a data packet through the air, and a control unit that outputs a control signal for controlling the transmission power according to connection information of the data packet received through the communication unit. The connection information includes a reception signal strength and/or link quality information. Since the transmission power is adjustable, communication is carried out among nodes of the network with an adequately minimum power consumption and a proper communication quality.

  • Patent number: 6211979
Abstract: An optical switching network has: N input couplers each having a cell input port and a recursive input port, N output couplers each having a cell output port and a recursive output port, N/2 switch couplers connected between the input couplers and the output couplers, and a controller having a routing table, for generating control signals for the respective input, output, and switch couplers upon input of cells. The optical switching network has a single-stage optical recursive loop in which an x-numbered recursive output port is connected to a 2x-numbered recursive input port if 0≦x<N/2, and the x-numbered recursive output port is connected to a (2x−N+1)-numbered recursive input port if N/2≦x<N.

  • Patent number: 5869821
Abstract: A credit inquiry service system for inquiring about the credit standing of a check or credit card uses subscriber lines of a public communication network. The system includes credit inquiry terminals connected to the subscriber lines for generating and transmitting an inquiry request message requesting information regarding the credit standing of the check or credit card. The credit inquiry terminals also receive an inquiry result message corresponding to the inquiry request message via the subscriber lines. The system further includes a line multiplex device for one by one serially selecting the subscriber lines connected to the credit inquiry terminals, receiving the inquiry request message from one of the credit inquiry terminals connected to a selected subscriber line, and transmitting the inquiry result message corresponding to the inquiry request message to the corresponding credit inquiry terminal.
