    Abstract: A synchronization detecting apparatus includes a counter, an error detector, and a line length generator. The counter counts to a predetermined counter value in response to a clock signal. The error detector generates an error, which is the difference between a current counter value received from the counter and a previous line length, in response to a synchronization flag signal. The line length generator generates a current line length based on a compensated error and the predetermined counter value. The synchronization flag signal has an active level at a transitioning edge of a synchronization pulse signal contained in an input signal.

    Abstract: An imaging apparatus and method provides a wide dynamic range and is capable of displaying an improved color in low-luminance regions, and an image signal processing method thereof. In the imaging apparatus, a first process divides the voltage level of an analog image signal into a plurality of sections and amplifies the analog image signal with a plurality of different gains according to each section, and a second process converts the analog image signal amplified with the different gains into a digital signal, and non-linearly gamma-corrects the digital signal according to each section. The plurality of different gains may be inversely proportional to the luminance level of the analog image signal. Thus, the level of an analog signal in a low-luminance region is amplified with a gain greater than in a high-luminance region before gamma correction, so that signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio in the low-luminance region of an image is increased, thereby improving sensitivity of the image following gamma correction.

    Abstract: An analog-to-digital conversion apparatus includes a sampling clock generator and an analog-to-digital converter. The sampling clock generator receives a clock signal and generates a plurality of sampling clock signals in response to phase control signals. The analog-to-digital converter receives a plurality of analog signals, samples the received analog signals and outputs digital signals synchronized with the sampling clock signals outputted from the sampling clock generator. The sampling clock signals outputted from the sampling clock generator correspond to the analog signals respectively. Therefore, the analog-to-digital converter can sample the inputted analog image signal when the inputted analog image signal is in the stable state. The apparatus includes an adaptive low-pass filter for covering an image signal captured through the lens with a mask of a predetermined size, comparing brightness level differences between a central pixel located in the center of the mask and pixels adjacent to the central pixel with a threshold value, multiplying a weight calculated in response to the comparison result by the brightness level of a concerned pixel in the mask, adding together the multiplication results of all the pixels, and outputting the addition result as an adaptively low-pass filtered image signal. A high-pass filter filters a high-frequency component of the adaptively low-pass filtered image signal.
