Abstract: The present invention relates to a filter and a plasma display device thereof, and the plasma display device includes: a plasma display panel; an EMI shielding sheet, wherein shielding layers including three or more thin film layers are repeatedly stacked; and a sheet for protecting external light having a base unit of which one side is formed with a plurality of grooves and a plurality of pattern units formed inside the grooves of the base unit and having a different refractive index from that of the base unit. According to the present invention, it is possible to effectively realize black images and enhance bright room contrast by arranging the sheet for protecting external light, which maximally absorbs and protects external light from the outside, at the front of the display panel. At the same time, it is also possible to enhance electromagnetic wave shielding effect.

Abstract: A filter and a plasma display device using the filter are provided. The plasma display device includes a plasma display panel (PDP) which includes an upper substrate and a lower substrate that are coupled to each other; and a filter which is disposed on the upper substrate. The filter includes an external light shield sheet which includes a base unit and a plurality of pattern units that are formed in the base unit, and a distance between bottoms of a pair of adjacent electrodes that are formed on the upper substrate is 2.5-12 times greater than a distance between a pair of adjacent pattern units. Since the plasma display device includes the external light shielding sheet which can absorb and shield as much external light incident upon the PDP as possible, the plasma display device can effectively realize black images and enhance bright room contrast.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a plasma display device, and a filter formed in a plasma display panel includes an external light shielding sheet which includes a base unit, and a plurality of pattern units that are formed on the base unit, wherein an angle between an electrode that is formed on the substrate adjacent to the filter and the pattern unit is 5° or less. According to the present invention, the plasma display device can effectively realize black images and enhance bright room contrast, as an external light shielding sheet, which absorbs and shields as much external light incident upon a plasma display panel PDP as possible, is disposed at a front of the plasma display panel. In addition, the plasma display device of the present invention may reduce the moire phenomenon, as the patterns of the external light shielding sheet is diagonally formed at an angle with the electrode or the barrier rib formed in the panel.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a filter and a plasma display device thereof. Abstract: A flat panel display device is provided. The flat panel display device includes a display panel and a filter which is disposed at a front of the display panel and includes an external light shield layer. A base unit of the external light shield layer satisfies the following equation: 1.5×h3<h4<2.0×h3 where h3 indicates a drop height of a steel ball having a weigh of 5-9 g to generate a crack in a filter including no impact-resistant layer and h4 indicates a minimum drop height of the steel ball that can result in a crack in a filter including the impact-resistant layer. Therefore, the durability of the filter or the display panel against an external impact can be improved.

Abstract: A plasma display panel (PDP) is provided. The PDP includes an upper substrate on which first and second electrodes and a dielectric layer are disposed; and a lower substrate on which a third electrode is formed. The dielectric layer includes a base unit and a plurality of pattern units which are formed in the base unit. In short, a plurality of external light shield patterns for shielding external light are formed in an upper substrate or in an upper dielectric layer of a PDP, and thus, it is possible to effectively realize black images and improve the bright room contrast of a PDP.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an external light shielding sheet and a plasma display device thereof, and the plasma display device comprises a plasma display panel(PDP); and an external light shielding sheet, which is disposed at a front of the PDP and includes a base unit and a plurality of pattern units which are formed on the base unit and absorb external light, wherein at least one of the plurality of pattern units has an ascending portion with an average slope of 0.5 to 45 degrees and a descending portion with an average slope of ?45 to ?0.5 degrees. According to the present invention, it is possible to effectively realize black images and enhance bright room contrast by arranging the external light shielding sheet, which absorbs and shields external light from the outside, at the front of the display panel(PDP).
