  • Publication number: 20130023813
Abstract: Many people need vascular access for procedures such as hemodialysis. It is desirable that this access remain open or patent for the entire duration of the course of treatments. A drug delivery device and methods of using the device are introduced that delivery drug to venous anastomosis of a synthetic vascular access shunt. In some embodiments this device serves as the shunt connecting the target artery and vein to create the vascular access shunt.

  • Publication number: 20120296373
Abstract: A closure device for closing an opening in tissue is provided. The closure device includes an elongate member through which needles may be deployed. The closure device also includes a closure element having a foot portion and a needle guide portion. The foot portion and the needle guide portion are each movable between a delivery configuration and a deployed configuration. The foot portion includes cuffs removably mounted thereon and having sutures connected therebetween. The needle guide portion includes needle guide apertures that guide the needles to the cuffs. The needles securely engage the cuffs and draw the cuffs and suture through the lumen wall so that the opening in the lumen wall can be closed with the sutures.

  • Publication number: 20120296347
Abstract: A suture applying device includes a shaft which carries a pair of needles near its distal end. The needles are joined by a length of suture, and the shaft is used to both introduce the needles into a lumen of a body structure and to draw the needles back through tissue on either side of the puncture site. After the needles have passed through the tissue, they are captured by a needle receiver and drawn outward through the tract, leaving a loop of suture behind to close the puncture site near the body lumen. The suture can then be tied or otherwise secured to close the puncture site.

  • Publication number: 20120296374
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for closure of vascular punctures or other openings in bodily tissues. The apparatuses and methods described herein are configured for everting a portion of tissue around a puncture site for wound closure on the external surface of the wound. For example, the tissue eversion apparatus may be configured for drawing up a portion of a vessel surrounding a venous or arterial puncture and orienting the inner surface of the vessel at least partially outward so that a closure element may be placed around the inverted region on the exterior surface of the vessel. In some embodiments, the devices are bioabsorbable.

  • Publication number: 20120035630
Abstract: A device for engaging tissue may include a generally annular-shaped body defining a plane and disposed about a central axis extending substantially normal to the plane. The body may be movable from a substantially planar configuration lying generally in the plane towards a transverse configuration extending out of the plane. The body may include a plurality of looped elements including alternating inner and outer curved regions. The inner curved regions may define an inner periphery of the body and the outer curved regions may define an outer periphery of the body in the planar configuration. A plurality of tines may extend from the outer curved regions. The tines may be oriented generally towards the central axis in the planar configuration and generally parallel to the central axis in the transverse configuration. The tines may extend beyond the central axis without passing through the central axis so as to collectively form a central lumen about the central axis in the planar configuration.

  • Patent number: 7807210
Abstract: The present invention relates to providing a porous, hydrophobic polymer with a hemocompatible substance and to the materials produced thereby. One embodiment of the present invention relates to the providing of expanded poly(tetrafluoroethylene) with one or more complexes of heparin, typically containing heparin in combination with a hydrophobic counter ion. The hemocompatible substance is dissolved in a mixture of solvents in which a first solvent wets the polymer to be coated and the second solvent enhances the solubility of the hemocompatible substance material in the solvent mixture. Typical first solvents wetting hydrophobic polymers include non-polar such as hydrochlorofluorocarbons. Typical second solvents include polar solvents such as organic alcohols and ketones. Azeotropic mixtures of the second solvent in the first solvent are used in some embodiments of the present invention although second solvents may be employed in a range of concentration ranges from less than 0.1% up to saturation.
