    Abstract: Systems and methods for hybrid video compression. A method includes receiving an encoded video including at least two compressed frames corresponding to at least two anchor frames and a compressed subset of at least one intermediate frame between the at least two anchor frames, generating, by inputting the at least two anchor frames into a deep machine learning model, a synthesized image frame corresponding to the at least one intermediate frame between the at least two anchor frames, reconstructing at least one hybrid image frame by combining the compressed subset of the at least one intermediate frame with the synthesized image frame, and outputting a video including the at least two anchor frames and the at least one hybrid image frame. Thus, DCT-based video compression techniques can leverage machine learning-based video interpolation techniques to provide encoded video streams with a reduced bitrate and thus reduced bandwidth while maintaining image quality.

A fake acknowledgement (ACK) can be sent to the network element in the wireless network, based on the context information, acknowledging that the missing data segment was received at the wireless device. The out-of-order data segment without the missing data segment can be provided for display at the wireless device.

    Abstract: Region-of-interest cropping of high-resolution video is supported video compression and extraction methods. The compression method divides each frame into virtual tiles, each containing a rectangular array of macroblocks. Intra-frame compression uses constrained motion estimation to ensure that no macroblock references data beyond the edge of a tile. Extra slice headers are included on the left side of every macroblock row in the tiles to permit access to macroblocks on the left edge of each tile during extraction. The compression method may also include breaking skipped macroblock runs into multiple smaller skipped macroblock runs. The extraction method removes slices from virtual tiles that intersect the region-of-interest to produce cropped frames. The cropped digital video stream and the compressed digital video stream have the same video sequence header information.
