  • Publication number: 20050198320
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing converged communication services in a communication system are disclosed. A first endpoint of the system communicates with at least a second endpoint of the system via session initiation protocol (SIP). At least a portion of the SIP communication is controlled utilizing an application layer overlay framework which permits substantially simultaneous operation of the first endpoint in two application layer protocols, the two application layer protocols including SIP and web services protocol. The web services protocol may illustratively comprise an application layer web services transport protocol such as SOAP/HTTP. The application overlay framework comprises a web services interface, with the web services interface being configured to permit access to information associated with the SIP communication by one or more communication service applications of the system.

  • Patent number: 6881996
Abstract: A metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor structure and method of fabrication for CMOS circuits having copper interconnections are described. The method provides metal capacitors with high figure of merit Q (Xc/R) and which does not require additional masks and metal layers. The method forms a copper capacitor bottom metal (CBM) electrode while concurrently forming the pad contacts and level of copper interconnections by the damascene process. An insulating (Si3N4) metal protect layer is formed on the copper and a capacitor interelectrode dielectric layer is formed. A metal protecting buffer is used to protect the thin interelectrode layer, and openings are etched to pad contacts and interconnecting lines. A TiN/AlCu/TiN metal layer is deposited and patterned to form the capacitor top metal (CTM) electrodes, the next level of interconnections, and to provide a pad protect layer on the copper pad contacts.

  • Publication number: 20050071674
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for the secure delivery of converged services to users of wireless devices in a wireless environment. An application layer broker is position between the user devices and the application server to provide an indirect coupling between the enterprise application server and the wireless user devices. The application layer broker links the wireless environment to the enterprise application server through an event triggered content delivery mechanism without providing a direct link between the wireless user device and the enterprise application server. Delivered content can only be accessed by the intended user and the authorized device. The application layer broker provides adaptation to various user devices and the various capabilities associated with each user device. Wireless devices can be upgraded independently from upgrades to the application server.

  • Patent number: 6850602
Abstract: In a communications network, systems and methods using a feature other than a tone for detecting if the destination is a machine are described. An exemplary method includes the following steps: establishing a communication with a destination, detecting a response, if a response is not detected within a pre-determined time interval, determining that the destination is a machine. If a response is detected, the method further includes the following steps: determining whether the response includes a speech signal that includes a predefined term (e.g., “please leave a message”), and if it does, determining that the destination is a machine. If the response does not include a predefined term, the method may send out a query to the destination and if no response to the query is received or the response is not a speech signal, the method determines that the destination is a machine.

A TiN/AlCu/TiN metal layer is deposited and patterned to form the capacitor top metal (CTM) electrodes, the next level of interconnections, and to provide a pad protect layer on the copper pad contacts. The thick TiN/AlCu/TiN CTM electrode reduces the capacitor series resistance and improves the capacitor figure of merit Q, while the pad protect layer protects the copper from corrosion.

  • Publication number: 20040122907
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for controlling interaction between an enterprise application and a mobile client device in a communication system. Push content is generated in a wireless secure server or other type of server, responsive to information received in the wireless secure server from the enterprise application. The push content is deliverable from the wireless secure server to the mobile client device over a wireless network. The wireless secure server receives from the mobile client device, responsive to the push content, a request for additional information identifiable at least in part by the push content. The additional information is deliverable from the server to the mobile client device over the wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20040121762
Abstract: Voice message notification and retrieval functionality is provided for a mobile client device in a communication system by generating push content deliverable from a server to the mobile client device over a wireless network. The push content comprises a notification of at least one voice message received for a corresponding user in a voice messaging system. A connection between the mobile client device and the voice messaging system may be initiated from the mobile client device, responsive to the push content, for retrieval of the at least one received voice message. For example, the push content may comprise at least one link which when activated at the mobile client device initiates a connection between the mobile client device and the voice messaging system.

  • Publication number: 20040030541
Abstract: Techniques for training a call center operator trainee are described. A database contains queries including caller speech providing information to be used in routing a call. Each query is associated with an operator response as well as numerical values produced by analyzing the query and the operator response. A training module presents a query to a trainee and receives the trainee response. The training module compares the trainee response to one or more of the numerical values in the database to determine if the trainee response is consistent with the correct destination for the call. If the trainee response is not consistent with the correct destination, the training module provides guidance to assist the trainee in associating the query with the correct destination.

  • Patent number: 6472721
Abstract: In many mixed-signal or radio frequency Rf applications, inductors and capacitors are needed at the same time. For a high performance inductor devices, a thick metal layer is needed to increase performance, usually requiring an extra masking process. The present invention describes both a structure and method of fabricating both copper metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors and thick metal inductors, simultaneously, with only one mask, for high frequency mixed-signal or Rf, CMOS applications, in a damascene and dual damascene trench/via process. High performance device structures formed by this invention include: parallel plate capacitor bottom metal (CBM) electrodes and capacitor top metal (CTM) electrodes, metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors, thick inductor metal wiring, interconnects and contact vias.

  • Patent number: 6442520
Abstract: A continuous speech decoder that is built up of multiple layers. Each of the layers uses independent knowledge sources and rules, but all the layers cooperate to quickly decode the speech input into words. A first layer is concerned with acoustic data, a second layer with phone data of speech and a third layer concerns word data and word sequences. By separating these layers, the higher layers can be made time independent and asynchronous. Thus the asynchronous layers can process data quickly and give fast support to the first layer which keeps a dynamic record called a dynamic network of the most likely continuous speech results. The speed and separation of this decoder allows better memory efficiency and better decoder results compared to previously known continuous speech decoders.

  • Patent number: 6336090
Abstract: Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) is achieved in wireless communications systems in which reliable ASR feature vector sequences are derived at a base station directly from digitally transmitted speech coder parameters, with no additional processing or signal modification required at the originating handset. No secondary channel need be provided for the transmission of ASR feature vectors. In operating on received speech coder parameters prior to conversion to a voice signal the present system and methods avoid the lossy conversion process and associated voice distortion. Since the received voice parameters are error protected during transmission they are received with greater accuracy. All, or a subset, of speech coding parameters, including, in appropriate cases, spectral envelope parameters, reflection coefficients, LSPs, LSFs, LPCs, LPCCs, and weighted LPCCs may be processed at a receiving base station or forwarded to another location for processing.
