  • Patent number: 7350555
Abstract: A storm door with a turn-away handle that does not obstruct normal manipulation of the storm door. The storm door permits seasonal changing between a screen or window and routine window cleaning without obstruction by an elongated handle. The storm door incorporates an actuator that has a hub with a free moving internal cam to permit moving an elongated handle from over an opening of the storm door to a position along the frame of the storm door. The method of use includes proving a storm door with a turn-away handle, moving it to a position that does not obstruct a window and screen, and moving it to a position that retracts a live bolt into the storm door.

  • Patent number: 7213426
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a storm door mortise lock that prevents lockout with a lock body having opposed side plates and a cam in between the side plates, the cam being in operative interaction with a dead bolt assembly. The mortise lock body also may include one or more stops within the deadbolt assembly to limit the rotation of the cam and prevent a lockout situation. A thumb turn button and key cylinder are secured to opposite escutcheon plates. A spindle traverses from the key cylinder through the cam through hole and terminates in the mounting slot of the thumb turn button. Rotation of either the thumb turn button or the key cylinder turns the spindle and actuates the cam that actuates the dead bolt assembly.

  • Patent number: 7134168
Abstract: A door closer comprises a cylinder with an extensible and retractable rod. The cylinder has a first end adapted to be secured to a door frame, while the rod has an outer end adapted to be connected to the door. The rod has a series of grooves along the length. A pawl is mounted in a housing on one end of the cylinder and is adapted for movement between an engaged position engaging one of the grooves of the rod and a disengaged position. A button on the housing is adapted to be depressed to move the pawl to the engaged position, whereby the pawl holds the door open in a selected position. The pawl can be disengaged from the rod merely by opening the door slightly, after which the spring-biased rod automatically pulls the door to the closed position.

  • Patent number: 7055873
Abstract: A latch mechanism for a storm door including a nose and a handle operably connected to a spindle that is operatively connected to an exterior handle. The handle and nose are rotatably secured to a linker that is secured to the spindle. The handle includes a cam that, upon rotation, presses against the upper portion of the nose. This causes the nose to rotate on the linker and retracts the front of the nose away from the catch on the interior wall or door jamb. The spindle is inserted through a spindle cylinder that is in operative contact with the linker assembly and rotatably secured to the body of the storm door by a mounting bracket. The spindle cylinder allows the handle, nose and linker to be rotated, thereby causing the nose to swing away from the catch.
