  • Publication number: 20170054982
Abstract: Real-time image processing and annotation of video streams is provided by a system of plural processors and memory storing executable instructions to cause the processors to execute real-time processing. Different regions are set for frames of the video stream which define objects therein based on the context or content thereof. Skipping intervals are set for each region. Frames are individually selected from the video stream according to each skipping interval of each region. Specific regions are separately processed by different processors in the selected frames which are separated at intervals within the video stream by the frame skipping values. The processing of the regions identifies objects therein and stores descriptions of the objects in an index to facilitate searching of the video content. The activity of the objects in the video stream further cause the frame skipping levels to change thereby causing selected individual frames to be dynamically processed.

  • Publication number: 20170039488
Abstract: The system and method disclosed herein provides a taxi sharing bridge system, which uses taxis from a plurality of taxi companies (and their respective taxi sharing systems) to effectively dispatch commuters to their specific destinations when a disruption occurs in a public transportation system. The system and method includes client devices associated with a plurality of users, a taxi sharing bridge system and a plurality of taxi sharing systems. The system uses past transportation service usage data to determine a preferred route of a user to travel from an origin to a destination. The system takes into account a priority level of the users who choose to use the service to group them into taxis to arrive at a destination upon a disruption in the public transportation system. The priority level may be based on the commuter's waiting time, the commuter's loyalty, and preferred route type.

  • Publication number: 20170024245
Abstract: Some examples include a plurality of nodes configured to execute map-reduce jobs by enabling tasks to share processing slots with other tasks. As one example, a job tracker may compare a task profile for a received task with one or more task profiles for one or more respective tasks already assigned for execution on the processing slots of one or more worker nodes. Based at least in part on the comparing, the job tracker may select a particular one of already assigned tasks to be executed concurrently with the received task on a slot. In addition, the job tracker may determine one or more expected future tasks based at least in part on one or more ongoing workflows of map-reduce jobs. The selection of the already assigned task to be executed concurrently with the received task may also be based in part on the expected future tasks.

  • Publication number: 20160275123
Abstract: Some examples include a pipeline manager that creates pipeline queues across data nodes in a cluster. The pipeline manager may assign a pipeline queue connection to contiguous map-reduce jobs so that a reduce task of a first map-reduce job sends data to the pipeline queue, and a map task of a second map-reduce job receives the data from the pipeline queue. Thus, the map task of the second job may begin using the data from the reduce task of the first job prior to completion of the first job. Furthermore, in some examples, the data nodes in the cluster may monitor access success to individual pipeline queues. If the access attempts to access successes exceeds a threshold, a data node may request an additional pipeline queue connection for a task. Additionally, if a failure occurs, information maintained at a data node may be used by the pipeline manager for recovery.

  • Patent number: 9342529
Abstract: An aspect of the invention is directed to a plurality of MDSs (metadata servers) in a distributed storage system which includes data servers storing file contents, each MDS having a processor and a memory and storing file system metadata. Directories of a file system namespace are distributed to the MDSs through referral directories referring to real directories using hash value of inode number of each of the referral directories. During a process to create a directory in the file system namespace, a first MDS dynamically creates a referral directory in the first MDS, and creates a real directory in a second MDS, the referral directory in the first MDS referring to the real directory in the second MDS by maintaining location information of the real directory in the second MDS, the real directory in the second MDS containing the file system metadata for the directory in the file system namespace.

  • Patent number: 9197703
Abstract: An MDS (metadata server) in a distributed storage system includes data servers (DSs) storing file contents and one or more MDSs performing metadata operations in response to metadata requests of different types, the MDS including a controller having a processor and a memory, the MDS storing file system metadata. The controller is configured to: classify the metadata operations into different categories, which include a normal category and one or more special categories different from the normal category, the normal category having a primary stage which does not involve communication between the MDS and a component external to the MDS; for each special category, partition each metadata operation into a plurality of stages at least one of which involves communication between the MDS and a component external to the MDS; and dynamically assign resources to each of the partitioned stage based on monitored workloads of the different types of metadata requests.

  • Publication number: 20150227540
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide a data compression technique which chooses a compression method without compressing data. A storage system comprises a storage media and a controller. The controller is operable to: determine a compression method to be used to compress a data block of uncompressed data based on one or more characteristics of data content of the uncompressed data prior to compressing the data block; and compress the data block of the uncompressed data using the determined compression method. In some embodiments, the controller is operable to determine the compression method based on a compression rule which relates one or more characteristics of data content and compression methods. In specific embodiments, the storage system further comprises a flash memory device which includes the controller to determine the compression method and to compress the data block.
