  • Patent number: 6383004
Abstract: The invention relates to a connection element for the connecting of electrical leads which are provided in particular for motor vehicles and which comprise a plurality of parallel individual conductors which are connected to a common strip-like carrier, comprising an upper part and a lower part, each of which having at least one clamping surface. The clamping surfaces face one another in such a manner that in the connected state, two overlapping leads with mutually facing contact regions are clamped in between the clamping surfaces. The invention further relates to a method for the replacement of electrical components which are in particular provided for motor vehicles with the help of a connection element in accordance with the invention.

  • Patent number: 6291780
Abstract: A method of, and device (10) for, connecting a plurality of flexible printed circuits (12) each comprising a layer (14) of electrically insulating material and a layer (16) of electrically conducting material. The method including the steps of forming a hole (18) through each flexible printed circuit; positioning first and second substantially rigid plates (20,22) of electrically insulating material on either side of the flexible printed circuits with the holes in the flexible printed circuits aligned with a corresponding hole (26,28) in each plate; extending a rivet (24) of electrically conducting material through the aligned holes to electrically connect with the layers of electrically conducting material on the flexible printed circuits; and enlarging the ends (30,32) of the rivet to secure the flexible printed circuits between the plates. Provides an improved electrical and mechanical connection between FPCs.

  • Patent number: 6179658
Abstract: A sealing arrangement (10) between an electrical connector (12) and an electrical conductor (14), such as an FPC, in which the electrical conductor extends through an aperture (18) in a housing (16) of the electrical connector, the sealing arrangement being positioned adjacent the aperture and comprising a flap member (22) which is pivotally mounted and movable between an open position and a closed position, the flap member being positioned on one side of the electrical conductor; a wall (20) positioned on the opposite side of the electrical conductor to the flap member; and a compressible seal (24) positioned around the electrical conductor; wherein, in the closed position of the flap member, the flap member, the wall and the electrical conductor lie in planes which are substantially parallel; and the seal is compressed between the flap member and the wall and partially extruded into the aperture. Easy assembly. FIG. 2 to accompany the abstract.

  • Patent number: 6140593
Abstract: A switch array (10) comprising a housing (12) having a front face (14), a rear face (16), and a number of through bores (18) extending from the front face to the rear face; a resilient switch card (30) having a front face (34) directed towards the rear face of the housing, a rear face (36) directed away from the housing, and a number of contact areas (38) on the front face associated with each through bore, wherein the number and position of the contact areas associated with each through bore is identical; a switch cap (20) slidably mounted in, and removable from, one of the through bores, the switch cap having a front face (22) adjacent the front face of the housing, a rear face (24) adjacent the rear face of the housing, and one or more pins (28) projecting from the rear face of the switch cap, wherein the number and position of the or each pin is predetermined, and wherein the or each pin can exert pressure on one of the contact areas associated with the through bore on pushing the switch cap from a rest p
